Main toh piya se nain laga aai re

And I saw timidity,
Like the folding of a leaf
At the touch of a dew drop.
You looked away,
And in your eyes
I smiled.

Main toh piya se nain laga aai re

And I saw anger,
Like the burning of paper
And the words on it.
You looked into my eyes,
And in yours
I couldn't see myself.

Main toh piya se nain laga aai re

And I saw forgiveness,
Like the sound of falling rain
On a heated window pane.
You looked down,
And in your eyes
I saw the ground.

Main toh piya se nain laga aai re

And I saw longing,
Like the words in my mind
Waiting to reach your pen.
You looked at my palms,
And in your eyes
I saw my tomorrow.

Main toh piya se nain laga aai re

And I saw lust,
Like butterflies in spring
Dancing in mid-air.
You looked at me,
And in your eyes
I saw wildfire.

Main toh piya se nain laga aai re

And I saw love,
Like the tears in my mother's voice
Asking me to stay awhile.
You looked into my eyes,
And in yours
I saw only myself.

Shiver
Anurag Banerjee Apr 2012
My breath bounced off her face,
She was fragrant and warm.
Looking into the blank wall,
She sat shivering in my arms.

There was light enough to see,
Just enough to see.
There were questions; answers, too.
As she sat shivering my arms.

Her dreams were honest,
Calm danced around her brow.
I talked incessantly of winds and trees,
But look, she's asleep now.

The Thin Line
Anurag Banerjee Apr 2012
You know,
that thin line,
Between dreams and reality?
That's where I met you.

You know,
that thin line,
Between sleep and awakening?
That's where I see you everyday.

You know,
that thin line,
Between memories and illusions?
That's where I hide you.

You know,
that thin line,
Between dusk and day?
That's where I hold you tight.

You know,
that thin line,
Between dark and light?
That's where I kiss you.

You know,
that thin line,
Between a smile and a smirk?
That's where I see you blush.

You know,
that thin line,
Between you and me?
That's where I stay.

Meet me there
when the rain comes,
As the line dissolves,
As we melt together and drain away.

Skating on a Rainbow
Anurag Banerjee Mar 2012
Violet, Indigo, Blue.
And she comes whistling in,
Wind in her hair,
Water in her eyes.
Yet composed, yet collected.

Green, Yellow, Orange.
And she is igniting a spark,
Breathing heavily,
Dancing steadily,
Yet determined, yet obstinate.

Red.
And she is now ablaze,
Waltzing with flames,
Skipping stones and names.
Yet pleasant and thus, complete.

Hot Seat
Anurag Banerjee Feb 2012
So I was sitting on the sun,
Drinking coffee and wine.
The moonlight shone down upon me,
Smirking in silvery pride.

I took a paper and drew a globe,
I sat thinking of the colours in monochrome.
A frightened breeze flew by,
As I sat on the sun, looking so dry.

A ventriloquist came by,
Asking for shade under a tree.
I looked at him and laughed,
For I sat on the sun looking so free.

So sitting on the sun,
I observed the earth so far.
But I sat on the sun,
Drinking iced tea from a jar.

Dear breeze, tell me where you are soaring to.
I am alone and grounded
Won't you let me glide with you?
Far beyond the land of the devastated,
Far beyond dreams and hollow screams;
Let me twinkle like sunshine through the morning dew,
Dear breeze, take me with you.

Mother
Anurag Banerjee Feb 2012
Watch me mother, how I fly,
How I glide to the sky,
To fetch the star above,
To brighten the stars in your eyes.

Watch me mother, how I sleep,
How I peacefully try to dream,
Of you resting your spent soul,
And drifting to the land of a fragrance, so serene.

Look at me mother, how I smile,
How I cease time for a precious while,
To stare at your tranquil visage,
That makes me believe the world is free from vile.

Look at me mother, how I stand unwounded,
How I strive to make my heart sacred,
As you divinely draw the dawn out of the horizon,
See how I shed my mane of pride and hatred.

Embrace me mother, tonight I am frightened,
My vision is blurred and my day darkened,
Shelter me tonight from these mortal frights,
As I hide in your smile, my hopes brightened.

A Song For Time
Anurag Banerjee Feb 2012
Fragrant smile,
Drifting time,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Distant dream,
Melodious screams,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Humming rains,
Enjoyable pains,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Deep breath,
Calm and no stress,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Green leaves,
Colour streaks,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Vibrant rainbows,
Swiftly flying swallows,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Moistened eyes,
Hastened cries,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.
Lightning flashes,
Thunder clashes,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Rolling hills,
Charming rills,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Roast and barbeque,
Mum, make me some stew,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Daddy’s arm,
Mummy’s charm,
Stay a while,
Lest I whine.

Fragrant smiles,
Drifting time...
Stay a while...
Lest I whine.
