A Swift decent
A run away train
What is it she meant
When she said she loves pain?

Lift up and replace
Her with
A dancer's face
Full of jewels and pith.

Teach her the meaning of connection
Or try at least
With mysterious affection
A chasm increased

I died under a tree
Or under the sea
So everything feels the same to me.
She puts on the mask of a happy daughter.
Her friends are jealous of her life.
No one knows that she’s alone because her parents are never home.
How long until she breaks under the pressure?
How long until the feeling of unloved takes her life?

She wears a mask like her favorite superheroes.
Trying to hide behind that sweet smile.
But inside a war is raging.
Inside her heart is breaking.
Inside the truth screams out.

He wakes up and the mask comes on.
Hiding the pain of watching his sick mother dying.
No one knows that their losing everything they have.
How long until he’s alone on the streets?
How long until he steals or dies, because he has no home?

He covers up the pain with his attitude.
Pretending that he owns the world.
But inside a war is raging.
Inside his heart is breaking.
Inside the truth screams out.

Acceptance is all they wanted.
Unconditional love from someone.
Never got that kind of feeling at home.
They might as well be alone.

We all wear a shape of a mask.
Whether it’s every day or occasionally.
It’s hard to keep your heart wide open.
For the fear they might not like what they see.
Thank you Lord
For this day

Thank you
For the birds that sing
Thank you
For the food we eat

Thank you
For my family
Thank you
For my friends

Thank you
For watching
My coming out
And my going in

Thank you
For always being there
When I've failed to be obedient
When I've not done your will

Thank you
For sending your son
To die
So we might live

Thank you
For being merciful
For being wonderful
For being watchful

Thank you
For giving me
A heartbeat
A life

I ought to give thanks
To the Lord
Thank you Lord
For everything
You're right, we've forgotten the many things we have around us to be grateful for...
