Static earphones, tired eye dread
a way to find center
putting bullet in head

Black eyed striptease
once a day smoke, please
open your door, freeze

Transit to banishment
planned mass exit
brutal abasement

I saw a way out once where the smudges on the window
were from other noses in the acute psych ward
it was never locked, but I locked myself in
and made up pictures on the ceiling

Two in the hole
fresh rice bowl
here we go

I was tired for a second
slept for two
fine with me
fine with you

In tired spirals we graph our days
In colored stains we speak our shaky hands
Rubbing white shirts on the chalk board to
make tie dye tees

Two sets of teeth licking molars
smelling their breath over
half smoked
cigarettes

The feeling of being caught in the rain
with nowhere
to go

I once saw a field so green it could be an aphid
I once saw a sky so blue it could be a puddle
ink stains sit and blur and muddle
together again

Words pressed out of a pomegranite
it could be any
but they turned out to be
yours

Picking flowers to pass the time
waiting on the sun
to call

Cut a hole in a mattress so they could still use her as a
******* even when she was pregnant
how do these things happen

Picking flowers to pass the time
waiting on the moon
to sleep

She woke up this morning wanting nothing more than coffee
how did she end up as a body on the side of the road
tell me that one God

Picking flowers to pass the time
waiting on the
grass growing

So many times I ask why but here I lie
waiting on the clock to strike
zero

Exorcise this from my soul
once again make me
whole

Stabilize this mind if you
don't mind, find some
time

Make me whole
again, my
friend

I try and I bend
like cheap metal
I'm nothing special
Just help

A flock of grackles
A sock full of quarters
A mouth full of
****** teeth

Chop up bodies like
mincemincemince
meat

Kiss me with your eyes
Adorn me in river stones
Roll me in the weeds
to catch their scent

Love my limp body
on the shores of
the San Gabriel river
south of center

Lance this blister
Call your sister
Chat chat chat
we're good enough for that

Topsy turvy teapot madness
plain grit gladness
split pea sadness
where did the time go

She washes sheets and lays them out on the tile roof
of her 1 room nothing in downtown anywhere
southeast Asia

And dreams of lovers and full meals
Cars and their steering wheels
Being something more than possessed
Independent, blessed
where did the time go

Black and blue and covered in this and you
*****, aches, probably the flu
A fly just landed, landed on you
Swipe away, sneeze into the sunlight
A somber step into the blacklight
Twilight and midnight are quite alike
Bugout moon as a backlight
We strive, we fight, what for
Trying to find the next door and breach it
Living for 4:00 and a beer to get near it
We grab wheels and attempt to steer it
But in the end it's like trying to fly a train
Day to day life is just insane
good luck

He woke up this morning with the idea
he walked from the back of the truck stop
where the spigot was
and thought about killing you
not you in particular
just someone
a you

Hitchhiking with a bootknife
a lucky stone
and a bandanna tied to a lock
waiting
waiting
the ever present waiting

Why did you stop?
what compelled you to pick him up
was it your good nature
or a service to humanity?

Any little dirt road, yeah
turn off here
did you expect it
or was it quick?

So many questions but
not so many
answers
