Bad boy blues.Get away from my door. Trouble trying to crawl.
Through my window. But I  keep it closed. So it can't get in. Found the
The girl that my eyes were searching for. To help me take care. Of love's
Business .That's what I was made for. Been looking all over for a love
That could be mine. All the time

UNCLE FUNKY BY VICTOR TRIPP
Victor Tripp Jul 2014
I never knew his real name as a child in Newark
But named him Uncle Funky the peanut man while he sold peanuts
from a makeshift stand, now on this June 2013 morning
My mind opens the door of youthful memory
I can see soiled pants and shirt,an old battered hat  covering gray uncut hair and brown hands waiting for a dollar for his peanuts
Funk clung to his skin like fleas to a dog
And just one whiff released would stagger a young boxer in his prime
The times changed with the town sweeping Uncle Funky away with
yesterday and the past like old news
And I wonder and it isn't a very pleansant wonder
Whatever became of Uncle Funky the peanut man?

DR MARTIN LUTHER KING trained us in workshops based on non-
Violence to resist the water hoses soaking us and knocking us down
On hate filled sidewalks  or the sharp teeth police dogs set upon
Men women children biting our private parts and making meals of
flesh, the billy clubs sprayed tear gas on the EDMUND PETTUS
Bridge, but somehow as I walked saying inside that time will tell about
Me and I glimpsed ahead the resurrection of my soul and manhood
Rising from the dust of shame. We all locked arms together with our
Wounded bodies determined minds and hearts spirits soaring
From DR KING's I HAVE A DREAM words and marching right
On into history

Papa was never home, women he held in his arms were't his own
Papa did't like to do much thinking. His natural talents were
Gambling loving drinking .Mama I don't need you to tell me the truth
Papa was never home , the loving he did was always his own
And when he died did't even our dog a bone

It's the final  countdown when buildings and trees on earth
Are falling down. The final countdown when panic and raving madness
Can be found. Rich men and women sitting on their money
With the poor left behind again in life too
And overcast days will be normal  here
And the sun will never shine on us  any more
Tell me brother what will doomed mankind do ?

Miss lee regrets
She's unable to dine today
Sadly , miss lee regrets
She's unable to dine today
She's so sorry to be delayed
But last night
At lover's lane instead of being faithful , she strayed
Sadly, miss lee regrets
She's unable to dine today
When she got up from her dream
Discovered her man had tasted her sweetness and gone
Sadly, she ran after him
And made it his final earthly time to play
And from her chic matching outfit
She fired that first bullet into his chest
Sadly, miss lee regrets
She's unable to dine today
Than the cops came and put on the cuffs
Read her rights calmly with no muss or fuss
She served ten years  right away
Used the long years of time to think and pray
And not long after her release miss lee died
Few folks were at the graveside to cry
Sadly , miss lee regrets
She's unable to dine today

Life is to brief to live all alone
I need someone to come to be my very own
I will care tenderly for you, you will do the same for me
Our love will always be forever
Come shower me with your love, shower with all the love I've waited for
I'm hurting inside as this love song I now sing, but when a true love
Comes, it can turn around and change everything
Shower me with your love, shower me please somebody
With all the love I've been waiting here for
I close my eyes and bow down on my knees and pray
That all my dreams do come true
Until you to me, I'll wait right here for you, patiently
Fairy tales in story books come true, praying hard and hoping
Each day and hour to fill up forever with you
Like the night stars that shine above in the sky
Our love and dreams will come together
Shower me with your love, shower me with the love I've needed
Shower me with your love that I've been waiting here for

TWO CELLOS BY VICTOR TRIPP
Victor Tripp Sep 2014
In the middle of humanity's jungle the wonderous sound of two cellos
Sooth my inner being floating on waves of air filling the night with
Gladness kind of a purple haze of rippling depth these two cellos
Unlike any sound ever heard before two cellos weeping tears of
Sound

We were both divers on the high board
Creeping toward the edge of adventure
Cautious; taking deep breaths of bravery
Very unsure;
Plunging into the unknown of love

In the courtroom of love I stand before the bar with you ready to make
The final decision concerning my fate by banging down your gavel
Will your judgement be yea or nay in the matter before the court
Will I be cast away in utter darkness forever or be released and ordered
To be tied with silken threads and placed forever by your lovely side
Victor Tripp Oct 2015
Your love is an open door of heavenly blessing
Sunshine lighting my dark way and I choose to love only you
As the years come to us, than pass slowly away
Nobody ever told me that loving someone tenderly
Could ever make me feel this good, and I choose willingly to love you
For all the rest of my nights and days, your hand reaching out in welcome
Changed my very life in so many ways
And I choose to love only you , as  in song I lift my voice
I choose to love only you , its my own personal choice

When trouble has me swimming in its swift waters it seems like forever
Why is it that I don't see a boat or helping hand coming from my friends
Who stand on the shore? People pretend to be happy for your success
But inside, are all for themselves, wanting really you to ignore, this I've
Come to know is the real truth of the matter, as I slowly sink into muddy
Waters  wildly waving to all my friends on shore

Your love keeps me warm in a cold world
Even in times when things go wrong as they often do
I smile to myself think of no one else but you
It doesn't matter to me what I don't have or lack
As long as I'm assured that you love me faithfully
And at all times have my back. Every night your love
Pulls my body to sleep and the promises you made
I know that you'll keep

I sink into your softness. The very motion takes us higher. Is that a sigh
Or  a scream I hear? Your fingers comb through your hair in silent joy.
Face moving side to side. If this is a dream . Let us stay asleep. Candle
Smells of ginger spice. Float in the room. The drizzle of rich desire is thick over everything. We've shared some spicy hot.Times like this. Much
Later on the terrace. Over looking the city at sundown. I'll serve you
Stir-fry with crisp dark crowns of green onion. Egg rolls cooked in peanut
Sauce with  chilled coconut milk . Just for you

Slaves never owned the land nor themselves
And its hard to imagine if we were ever really free in every
Possible way after  PRESIDENT LINCOLN freed us
Let me explain what I mean.Master smiled and shook hands with us
While giving us a piece of land rocky weedy unused
He also gave us seeds farming equipment and  an old mule
And let us have credit at the corner store that he owned
Where Ious were accepted plus we were allowed to keep the shanty
From which  was used to fight off the wind  dust storms rains snows
Lest I forget to make it known, he took most of the crops
When they came in leaving us only enough food for our family
to live on until the next crops came up
We watched this happen year after year until the ious were taller
than the silent trees that once hung us and left us dangling
In the wind like dark fruit thrown away
With no thought of human blood on the leaves
Running down to join its roots
Victor Tripp Jul 2014
I never thought nor realized that in speaking your name
I would have tears in my eyes
You were the presidential first father of South Africia
But now you NELSON MANDELA  sleep among the
Giants of history like GEORGE WASHINGTON  who laid out the
Foundation and framework conceived in liberty a new nation
Under GOD injecting  into the veins of your country
Liberty without malice for all people all colors creeds
who walked democracy's long road to freedom by your side
Always refusing to let the scorning heat of racism
Put out the light of your divine humanity
Ever lifting up a fist of victory toward a new dawn of opportunity
Of patience love for all
While remaining a new hope in the body of politics refusing to bow
To the cruel headwinds of hate even after breaking rocks of harsh
Prison punishment for twenty seven years
You went in a cell a prisoner but came out a president
No the relentless sun of hate never blew you off course
As king who walked among us  in peace
With a freedom metal and Nobel Peace Prize
You kept the common touch with embraced humility
Smiling  greeting the known and unknown
The rich the poor the tired and the weary
Nelson Mandela you were true royalty with grace among us

Reach out a helping hand,if you see someone down, be sure to help him
Stand, he might for the moment, have lost the way, everybody needs
Somebody  to help them stand, there is darkness of hard times reaching
Out for us all, you can be a helping light, while passing along
Love and help people, of all colors, with all of your might, young or old
We all need some comfort, in this spinning fast old world, it doesn't
Matter if you're black or white, man or woman, little boy or girl
Sad  tears fall from everyone behind closed doors, you might be the one
That misery is looking for, or even the one to someone's whispered
Prayer, cried out in hopes, that someone will come and really care

My body sways and moves
To the pounding of the drums
If you believe  the drums will bring a brand new day
than dance and sway to the pounding of the drums
Time will remember your name but dance and sway to the drums
Success will touch the dreams inside
       While stepping into the future
From the drum waves of sound
            Flying up into the air
As tapping fingers move

It Seems By Victor Tripp
Victor Tripp Oct 2015
It seems I've waited a whole lifetime
Just to love you, to hold out my arms and draw you near
Now that we have each other so faithfully , wedding rings sparkling
In the sunshine of future days ahead, I wish that we could spend
Eternity here, forever as one
Victor Tripp Nov 2014
I can remember as a male child playing with my lone toy car.On the floor
In a house where love was present coming from mama. Who could ask
For more? Much to young to know that politics would be a part of
Adult life . And become a lying fairy tale. People marching in
Washington streets for full freedom and equal rights. Single mothers
With fatherless children not sleeping at all many nights. Women shut out
The doors of equal pay.Gridlock a living monster on both politicial sides
That just won't go away. And the PRESIDENT with smooth words
And body language trying to shoo the problem away. Wants to sip
KENTUCKY bourbon with GOP speaker MITCH McConnel while
The ROME of our nation slowly burns. Is reason impossible?

HUNGRY BY VICTOR TRIPP
Victor Tripp Jul 2014
I'm a hungry child in AMERICA and all I dream of is food
Eating chips and candy cookies every chance that comes
Surely doesn't help my hungry mood
Crying on mama's shoulder for a little more to eat
The small donuts that I  saw in the supermarket would be a great stomach
Treat.I'm hungry, so very hungry, hamburgers  fries steak with brown gravy are dancing before my eyes.Mama loves me, I know that she really
Cares, but she ate noodles every meal before my birth
So that's why I came out of her womb, impaired and hungry in the greatest country in the world and there are so many others like myself
Out in plain sight , many hungry boys and girls
Will the nightmare ever really end?  so hungry and tired of the gridlock between the President and both houses in Washington to mend. Can't they come together for my sake, and pretend to be friends
And not fool the Nation or me with their phony promises and lies
Just to get elected to office again, because I'm hungry

Her voice was loud in a small body frame
Somebody said: Oh, Miss Billie, please sing a nice blues song
In your little girl's voice, I could listen to your sad voice all night long
Sing, Miss Billie
Until the day is long gone
You been singing about real things that have been happening
Since the day that you came here to be born
Oh, Miss Billie, she so in love that she can hardly stand
Heard the drummer hit those skins with  drumsticks
Looks like a riverboat gambler, but plays like a real mad man
" What That bass man doing?''
His playing makes me sigh
And he plays with fingers on strings with feeling
Somebody go get me a drink of water
Because he's got my mouth feeling kind of dry
Victor Tripp Jul 2014
He held the rich brown earth in the palm of a large hand
Fromwhich his crops grew and tasted the smoked ham country meat ,
Ate freely of the cornbread ,peach cobbler, sweet potato pie, turnip greens,
While laughing a laugh rich music. I thought him a glass that would
Never break or fall,a flower with no need of rain or soil. A daily tower of gentle strength. He embraced allof life's joys and pains like a man.
He went forth with gifts and sought to anoint the world with the same love
That anointed his family.Grandpa penny tried to make me look
beyond my foolish youth,so that I might understand the ways of wisdom. Now looking back over the long passing years
I realize that he opened my blinded eyes , offering me a chance
To see life face to face. And I closed my eyes and let time move this
Solitary man to another emotional place and cried,
Because I didn't want to deal with expectation and far away hope. But now the  way is brighter ,for  Grandpa Penny taught me that truth
Never lies and no lie lasts forever

WHAT I SAY BY VICTOR TRIPP
Victor Tripp Nov 2014
I watch with a number of others as the blind man RAY CHARLES
Is lead onto the stage. With dark glasses covering his eyes
Like black bandages.  Once seated at the piano his hands touch the keys
And with head thrown back and body moving from side to side
Lips open and sound comes rushing out like a train going through a
Tunnel of night or an escaping convict finally free
With jerking motions like one sitting on an emotional hot wire
Blown down in an unforgiving storm with WHAT I SAY GEORGIA
ON MY MIND I GOT A WOMAN WAY OVER TOWN THAT'S GOOD TO ME and listeners sit transfixed that so much talent
could come from one blind man to compose and sing the blues
From the blood and guts of hard times
Victor Tripp Dec 2014
Let angels say amen that CHRISTMAS time is here. Let  JOYBELLS  Sound everywhere and children's prayers for gifts be heard. Let churches be filled with folded hands of thanks.
Let ANGELS say amen throughout the universe .
And nothing disturb the peace and love of those seeking
them on earth.
Let the angels sing sweet lullabies and lift each voice in song.
Let the angels say amen and protect each kind and weary
heart from all harm.

Night rocks me to sleep with sweet dreams of you
God answered my wish for a lasting love and made the creation come true. All the loves of my past have disappeared now I'm traveling
Down the road to happiness pass all doubts fears whistling as I go
Toward new dreams and plans happy as a piano man
Reminding myself to never look back because just one longing glance
At what used to be could throw this man off track
Don't you realize that I'm stuck on you and will be hanging around for life and vow that I'll never turn back

LOVE BY VICTOR TRIPP
Victor Tripp Jan 2015
Love is the key that unlocks the door to let joy into your life
Love is the rock of faith upon which it stands towering high above
Mistrust and fear. Seeds of unselfishness allow love to flow and nourish  Each soul that it touches
Victor Tripp Dec 2015
The flowers rise up in the morning
Lifting their faces to the sun  wind combs the hair of the green leaves
Birds sing until the very day is done
Cows stand still grazing in the meadow
People go silently to bed with peace from daily cares
Lovers stroll in the golden sunshine
Sighing hand-in -hand with no fear
Church bells ring out tolling out the exact hour
And children on bent knees send up nightly prayers
Young love is a gift of the spirit  making you hear music everywhere
And you will hear sweet music each time your loved one is near

It could have been me, lying in a narrow alley with a drug needle
Sticking in a vein,or white powder up my nose. It could have been me,
Wandering the dark streets talking to myself jn madness, always
Thinking there was no way out, but your love stayed in my corner
Knocking out all fears and doubts, love was in my corner tending to keep me strong, flashing light of inspiration saying don't stop now or do any
Harm or wrong, my soul says yes I can make it, with each trial and testing
I can take it because love is in my corner

You didn't buy the grits and gravy that went on your plate
And your shoes were under my table the last meal you ate
And though your loving gives me chills
Honey it never pays any bills
I've grown tired of carrying this heavy load
So mister take all of your stuff and hit the road
Your mama carried you for nine months and I've carried you long enough
Baby its time to you know I won't be buying any more grits and gravy

Colored leaves of fall, come down on the square,  lovers seem to be
E verywhere, I want to show you some tender care, just whisper my name
Just whisper my name on the phone, and i'll be there, I'll be the friend to protect you, never treat you mean or disrespect you, just know that all times, i'll be there, waiting patiently when all others , have turned away
And gone, my love will be the anchor, that keeps you hanging on
Just whisper my name, on the phone, and i'll be right there

I know you're wondering if my love
Will stop flowering for you in time
   Never my love
You're probably thinking if you'll lose
Your special place in this heart of mine
       Never my love
Why do you think this burning love will end
       Never my love
You think my feelings will change
     And become untrue
      Never my love
Why do you think this burning love will end
When you know so well my need depends on you
     Never my love
I pledge to need you until time is no more
Cherish you for now this life is complete
     Will I ever leave
         Never my love

So many people gone
Death came and took them all away but I keep holding on
Because in time and life I want to stay there are no more tears
As onward this man goes looking forward to greet the coming years
Before moving on.So I keep holding on
Won't sing no more sad mournful songs. Got to keep holding on
Through the mist of disappointment you know at every funeral
I wept a lot of  real falling tears and no one was looking on at me
Wresled with each new hidden fear
I keep holding on .Got a lot of living yet to do
Until each and every single moment left is gone
I keep holding on

The summer leaves are dying now the grass is turning brown
It won't be long before the year closes down with snow on the ground
We traveled past dead leaves on the way to our graduation prom
As i sung a song I wrote especially while holding you
In my two loving arms. It was a real hard hitting winter
That really kept us on the go  and I guess that I won't need
that old nickname that everyone used to know that being tagged

Born into the world as Louis Armstrong , he was called "pops'' in jazz
Circles  or Satchmo when he picked up his trumpet on the Ed Sullivan  Show  and London heard the black and blue notes
Notes sounded in Copenhagon too
Sadness was turned into joy every time he blew
Notes higher and higher in tune
And each one spanked like a bad boy
Even Bourbon street picked up Louie's sweet vibe

No good news today to take away the gloom I watched
My neighbor's house burn down leaving only fumes
But everybody have to carry their own troubled cross and keep
On living daily no matter what has been lost
Fight on still despite the pain if I lose today tomorrow I'll surely gain
No good news today for anyone to hear so keep on marching past each doubt and fear no good news to help your peace of mind
Debts and mortgage will hurt your checkbook every time the tv
Is turned on and listen for some good news and go to sleep depressed
And hurting from the blues no good news to share
Bad news travels fast wish I could hear some good news other
Than somebody busted for selling a ton of grass

When you're looking in the mirror, tell me, who and what do you see
Is the image of one who is crooked, or as honest as can be, soul and
Conscience die and are washed away, when you cheat others and lie,
And when you close your eyes, and try to sleep at night, peace won't
Give your mind a try,you can't point your finger or talk , about somebody
Else's life,if your own isn't right, learn to respect yourself and others
If its day or night

Think of me on the next rainy day, when rain and tears start to fall
When love seems to be on life support and gloom mists your thoughts
Like a fog. Sadness can sometimes get out of hand, ready to knock you
Down.Even when a smile like the sun wants to break through, a frown
Will  get a hold so true, think of me on a rainy day when pain took hold
And refused to let go. Remember it was you that got me through that
Period. When thoughts of desperation kicked me around, your love
And caring feelings made me feel brand new

And he could drive steel railroad spikes, like no other man could
John Henry stood 6' 6', and could drive steel , with either hand
Legend spread his name, throughout the land
He walked up mountains, for exercise, and remained a steel driving man
Until he died.If you see John Henry coming, you best get on back,
Because even a fool, would know, that John Henry is going to pass
On through, laying down some train tracks

You could write a guide to panhandle smooth like glass
Hands jabbing a warning to unseen air voices
You tip closer, spit on the sidewalk
Spasms have checked into your body just like acme has dug
Craters on your homely face and ebony thin body
Walking streets invisible to pimps  police good citicens who rush past
After work to turn on burning lights you float through a sea
Of uncaring stares do they smell the sweat mixed with funk
That tongue kiss your clothes
Under a halo of darkness it would be a good time if a fork
Ever embraced your hand bringing food to the chapped lips
Parched throat if only you could snap away the hard times
Like one doing a magic trick but they won't go away like a fly
Bottom line, life is nothing not even to you

America written on your lady of liberty statue in new York harbor
You ask the tired poor weary those yearning to breath free
And we are here hiding in the silent shadow of that statue
Wating in articulate rage for our change to come
We cry out to you from the thousands in job lines
From the welfare lines and cheap bargain stores
While eating the corner store's high priced make-believe steaks
And bullet proof beans that make up our daily bread
The American dream for us is quickly becoming a home grown nightmare
Even while we're awake and slowly the great horn of plenty is running dry
For we are overworked,overlooked,underpaid,victimized
And forgotten in this land of the free and home of the brave
The money eagle still flies, but too high for the poor to catch
Blacks Whites Yellows Browns all sing the blues of hard times
Some off key and some on key Congressmen and city council legislate themselves higher salaries and less days to work along with longer vacations and more fun times
Democrats are doing it to their secretaries, while the Republicans are doing it to the Nation
Taxes are high and utilities too
The cost of living is going up while the chance at living is going down
Food stamps are cut in half as hunger cuts human throats
As our world turns people in other lands are watching us too
The want for a better life clings like a bad season
Povery's sorrow slides past the cheap wine inspired laughter
The stolen *** moments that blot out everything but the intense need
Can I get a witness?

I have bathed myself in the clear flowing waters of your love
And rested under the welcoming tree of your spirir
These hands have tenderly held your face and looking deep within your
Eyes I 've read the silent speech written there
You've been the beacon light of hope shinning across all my dark days
My city street oasis touchstone
With a love as warm as oven gingerbread
And when holding you in the middle of a sometimes evil and
Unjust land ,I've held the promise of joy
Victor Tripp Oct 2015
Determine within yourself, to smile more, worry less
Let love and peace guide you away from the path of bigotry
That will slay the soul and mind, look to the lush green cornfields
Standing as silent guards in America, the blooming summer apples
The the rapid streams, with minnows swimming in clear creeks
Junebugs buzzing in sundown , butterflies floating in soft winds
Fireflies glowing as tiny  neon signs, outliving, outdoing, stonings
Beatings to the body , spirit, of being called "shine'' , '' ******'' , '' darky''
Which of themselves, are never unforgettable, ever hoping that a stain
will be left on white souls, so that one might be able to smile in autumn

A SONG BY VICTOR TRIPP
Victor Tripp Nov 2014
A song to inspire should have wings. And the words shouldn't say
The same old thing. You should smile like a new bride. On a honeymoon.
While singing off key . It's familiar tune. A song just isn't a song if it
Won't inspire.Or has no message to bring. Just words put down won't take you higher . And thrown together make a silly thing.A song should be the sun in a sad heart. On a cloudy day. It's like I said before. The words should have something to say.Whether sung by a singer old or New the words and tune should touch the target in you

Passage BY VICTOR TRIPP
Victor Tripp Sep 2015
I can still smell blood on the deck, of the slave ship
As the ship moves under my feet, watch as the deckhands wash the deck
With vinegar, which makes everyone gasp for air
I am but one of  two , slave children aboard.
Before we set sail, men are separated  from children and women
They make us take our clothes off, and while standing there naked
Our mouths are opened , as we jump up and down, arms pinched,
Before the hot iron of branding , cooks our flesh
But this happens ,only to the chosen ones
Initials of our master, burned on our hips
The first thing  I lost was freedom. the second, was equality.
Each day,of  our existence, we are taught, to fear them
Caucasians of the colonies, born into humanity, and raised to be
Inheritors of society, not beasts of  it, like us
I've learned,that one man's delusion,is another man's strong faith
Male slaves are shackled, and take off between decks
