Ode to Bed
 Apr 2011 Kate

I'm lazy
I'm tired
Bed is here
Bed is good
Invites me in,
Thank you bed,
Lets me stay,
Thank you bed.
Drunken Duvet
Locks me in,
Poetic Pillow
Shuts my eyes,
Memory Mattress
Holds me still,
Makes me sleep.
Morning's come,
Alarms frustrated
Disrupts the peace
Bed's not fazed.
Pillow whispers;
Turn it off
Five more minutes
Duvet Calls
I oblige.
Bed's so kind.
Mattress shakes
I'm awake
God look
The time!
Duvet laughs
Pillow sniggers
******* bed
You made me late

decompoetry
I assume the worst
out of every occasion.
It is only my nature
to imagine
horrifying reactions
for every action.
Every minute late
is a minute’s worth
of faulty brakes
and stray bullets.

I am not a cynic,
I am merely a writer.
Now I understand
why most of the great
authors of our time
were miserable alcoholics.
Otherwise they would have
blown their brains out
long before they finished
a single story.

I do not ever want a child
to worry over at night,
I do not want to account
for every bruise and scratch.
I can only pray
I never become attached
to my immediate family.
I do not want a lover
to think about
when she’s gone.
It’s impossible to be
together forever,
so let’s not be together
at all.

Fingers crossed,
I will roam alone
until my time is finally
withdrawn.

And with any amount of luck,
it will be before
any of you.
Oh there once was a swagman camped in the  billabong,
  Under the shade of a Coolabah tree;
And he sang as he looked at his old billy boiling
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me."

Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda, my darling.
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
  Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag —
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.

Down came a jumbuck to drink at the waterhole,
  Up jumped the swagman and grabbed him in glee;
And he sang as he stowed him away in his tucker-bag,
"You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me."

Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda, my darling.
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
  Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag —
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.

Down came the squatter a-riding his thoroughbred;
Down came policemen — one, two, and three.
"Whose is the jumbuck you've got in the tucker-bag?
You'll come a-waltzing Matilda with we."

Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda, my darling.
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
  Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag —
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.

But the swagman, he up and he jumped in the waterhole,
  Drowning himself by the Coolabah tree;
And his ghost may be heard as it sings in the billabong
"Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me?"

Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda, my darling.
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me.
Waltzing Matilda and leading a water-bag.
Who'll come a-waltzing Matilda with me

Tea
Have a cup of tea
That'll make it better

Oh are you bleeding?
Where does it hurt?
Why don't you have some tea?
Heartache? Heartbreak?
TEA
Have some some ******* tea.

Death on two legs
Now on four legs
Excess of sobriety
I want to taste tachyons
They just keep coming
and coming
and coming
thoughts like a shattered mirror
7 years bad luck
Bad luck
Fickle mistresses in a ****** dawn
No more eyes
Make me blind
Cut me
Hit me
Make me bleed
Make me feel

Or don't.

I think I'm mad.

I've walked around your world
like walking on thin ice
I've tasted your words on my tongue
hot and sweet, like sugar and spice
I felt your touch on my skin
soft, cool and electric
I've watched my life devolve
to plain, when once eccentric
I've spent my days with you
picking egg shells off my feet
I've spent my days without you
hiding from a pain that runs too deep

I'm going out,
flies, so relax,
make love.
