The Jabawonky!
Second visit for the Jabawonky
On friday May the Seven
Which hopefully send the Covid
Not to a kind of virus heaven!

I'll be tentative, around ten to ten
As i await my chariots arrival
Not doing this for the fun of it
It's all about survival!

So if my chariot is late
I'll kidnap a local donkey
As i must have this second one
Of this vaccine Jabawonky!

My Name Is Lucy
I remain in my wooden abode
I have no work
But i survive well
On my ramshackle home
No-one really notices me
But i do occasionally meet
Members of my clan
My food is chewy, and moist
Sometimes to salty
And sometimes rotten
But i am grateful for this feast
I bore holes
As my doorway
Which allows me
Entrances, and exits
Which are sometimes
Plugged up by other residents
To keep the ravages
Of the stormy treacherous seas
At bay
My friends call me Lucy
I call myself Lucinda
I live a simple life
As any other Woodworm would

An Elegy For Earth
I sometimes wonder
If we are to be, the last generation
That we die off in
As we all lay
Within
Our self made coffin

As we poison
The planet
That gave us our birth
And in a twisted gratitude
We destroy
Our dear planet Earth

So much
For technological
Advances
Futuristic fancies
Are as futile
As furtive glances

But maybe
We'll be fortuitous
And realise our wrongs
Before it's to late
For
Reminiscent songs

The Foot Rebellion!
The strangest thing, as if my dreams aren't strange enough? Is that for the last three nights, in a row (ie: consecutive nights!) the bed sock on my right foot, has come off (yes, i wear socks in bed...). the only odd thing about this, is that prior to aforementioned nights, this event has only occurred about 3 times in the last 5 years, and alternated betwixt feet!
Perhaps a rebellious sock fairy, with a penchant for foot (as opposed to foreplay) play with my right foot, and a quirky sense of humour, is responsible for this foul, and odious foot cooling deed! or my right foot is reaching out for freedom, and some form of independence. escaping the confines, and imprisonment of my humble sock, that i force upon it?
What am i to do with a rebellious right foot? when all i'm doing, is trying to protect, and care for it, and keep it warm, the ungrateful little ****! next thing i know, it'll start expecting me to wear sandals, or perish the thought, flipflops! And has my right foot considered the feelings, and needs of my left foot? what's to happen if my left foot wishes to remain in it's current form, and prefers socks, and fab boots?
So if you see me walking down the street, nay, hobbling, with a boot on one foot, and a flipflop on the other, you'll know ive given way to both feet. ironic, in my attempts to satisfy, and create some kind of harmony, that i should end up with a limp. but just as i thought my life was complicated, i witnessed  a pirate with a peg leg, hobbling around in a flipflop!

Cool For Cats!
This may set the CAT amongst the pigeons
And also let the CAT, out of the bag
Perhaps creating a CATachresis
Like CATarrh, is a pirate CAT wag

A CATalogue, is a CAT on a log, missed
As a CATalyst, are CATS on a list
A CATechist, meanwhile, is a CAT that likes to be kissed
And a CATholic, a drunken CAT, slightly ******!

A CATechu, is a CAT with some ills
And a CATerpillar, then taking lots of pills
A CATegory, a cat, hence a dark sense of humour
Finally a CATflap, is an anxious CAT, according to a rumour?

The Things We Do For Love
"Stranger things happen at sea!"
Said thee, to me
As we ate more Brie
But i, quietly
Wished for Camembert
(So there!)
Thought i, to Claire
As we drank white wine
(I prefer red!)
Then we made love
(Not on the bed)
Whilst hanging from a Chandelier
(I'm scared of heights, tis my greatest fear!)
We then fell to the ground
Without a sound
Apart from screams of pleasure
(As we came at leisure)
Luckily landing on the bed
Our cheeks were blushed
(And slightly red!)
The colour of a pale red ink
More of a rosy pink
(Or so i think)
We then fell off, onto the floor
And then made love some more
After which slept (without a snore)
Such sweet dreams we had
As the big wide world
Seemed a little less mad

LIFE!
Life!
I am no more than a speck
A minuscule particle
Floating through
The infinity of time
And space
If reincarnation
Is a reality
Or merely theoretical
Then on average
If i lived for 64 years
in every lifetime
Since Earth began 4.5 billion years ago
I would of lived, 70,312,500 times!
And in that time, how much:
Food eaten = tonnes!
Sleep = @ 6 hours per night = 1,125,000,000 years
Wees etc = oceans!
*** = a multiple of multiple *******!
Farts = climate changing
Distance walked = @ 1,000 minimum miles per year
Total = 4,921,875,000,000 miles
Equivalent to walking round the planet
196,875,000 (197 million times!)
Just when i thought i'd lost my
'get up , and go'
Ive been there, and gone!
But, probably only changed gender
During any one of my 70 million lifetimes
Once!

The Lost City
Deep into the distant past
A curious story was quietly cast
About a city lost under the sea
Hence Atlantis was born into mythology

And that peoples resided there-in
Breathing bubbles, with mermaid like fins
So a mystery came to be
Of a civilization, 'neath the sea

For hundreds of years, and more
Many have searched the depths of it's folk-lore
Yet so far, no evidence has yet been found
Of this mysterious city, sat upon a watery ground

Coffined Princes
Headily archaic heritage

Empty stomachs, remain unfed
Murdered persons, of other cultures, lie dead
Air that we breathe, becomes toxic, as our
Dying ecosystems, untreated, will turn sour
Mutually assured destruction

Death could just as easily happen when
Mindless world leaders, choose to ignore
Attention, and money, to clean up our mess

One Step Forward .....?
Humanity began to grieve
Over a man, that couldn't breathe
That this reflected, an unbalanced inhumanity
As the world witnessed, a toxic insanity
As a cold, and callous individual
An audience recorded, their nightmarish vigil
They witnessed the actions, of this one man
That had oft been repeated, by others of his clan
All the rotten apples, that fell from this same tree
We're joined together, in a harsh brutality
Surely humanity, can be better than this
And love our diversity, a long time amiss
We all bleed red, and breathe the same air
As the majority of us know how to love, and know how to care
Black life's matter, as all life's should
If humanity is to advance, for the greater good
"The only thing necessary, for the triumph of evil,
Is for good men (and women) to do nothing"
Today, 20th April 2021, something good was done
And for a change, justice, and the truth won
But i have a horrible feeling, that i feel
That this convicted murderer, will shortly appeal...

Earth Eater!
I hope the world isn't an Oyster
I don't like Oysters
If it was Salmon
With herbs, butter, and lemon
Or a prawn
Or beetroot sandwich
I could indulge
And enjoy it
Like cold
Fresh from the fridge
Chocolate custard!
The World then
Would be good enough to eat
Unless it was flat
As a pancake
Or a cowpat
Last week
Whilst on a river walk
I saw an Oyster Catcher
"Amazing!" i thought
With its' beautifully shiny beak
That it could swallow up
A whole planet!

I witnessed Moon landings, and Space Odysseys, come forth
The second bridge i crossed, took me to the West
Memories of beautiful Wales, at its best
The third bridge, took me to Sussex's mouth
Life, and gender changing events, happening in the South
The fourth bridge, took me to the East
Where-in lay Thailand, a beautiful temples feast
And the fifth bridge, got me talking more
A bridge in my mouth, for more jaw jaw!

Once, many years ago, when our daughter was only four, five, or six.
We took her into the local grocers shop.
She was puzzled at the sign 'Hand Washed Baby Potatoes'.
So i explained to her, that the potatoes came via a children's nursery,
where the babies were gainfully employed washing small (new) potatoes,
and for this, their payment was a small bag of fresh nappies........

We reached our final destination, just outside a quiet little village in North Wales, for a peaceful camping holiday, and a well deserved escape from the humdrum. The sun was slowly breaking through a dewy morning mist, and the only signs of life, was a small stony quaint Welsh Cottage, set amongst a little wood in the distance, as a small plume of smoke rose from it's chimney.
Right by the camping area, was a very old stony bridge, which went over a rambling brook. There were various other tents on the site, but they appeared empty, and although there were vehicles by them, there was no signs of their occupants, so we assumed they were either still sleeping, or had gone for a walk, exploring the beautiful countryside around us.
It was all truly gorgeous, and we were feeling lucky to of found such an idyllic spot. Even our teenage daughter looked enthralled by it's breathtaking beauty, as for a change she wasn't on her phone or other tech.
We put the tent together, and sat down for some tea, and sandwiches, and simply took in the surrounding countryside. i decided to take some pics, and was fascinated by the bridge, and decided to get some closer shots, as it was so old, which added to the magic around us. As i got closer, i could see lots of bones scattered about, which i first thought were probably sheep, or even cattle. some were lying in the brook, and others, on it's side. As i got closer still, to my horror, i realised they were human skeletons, and some still had small amounts flesh on them! I turned and ran back to the tent, getting the car keys out as i ran, and shouting out "we're leaving right now, get in the car!" My partner looked confused, and obviously concerned at me shouting, our daughter responded more quickly, as she picked up my sense of urgency. My partner obviously enchanted by the beauty of the place, started to clear things up, i said "leave them, we've got to go right now!" She also realised something was wrong, i threw her the keys as we jumped into the car. As we were driving off, i looked behind, and saw a large ferocious looking Troll appear, from under the bridge......

With an engraving of a tiny red fox
And within this box, lay five others

And curiously lay a broken dolls head
Lastly lay a secret dream
Of a world, of strawberries, and cream

The River Aruns' Dragon
The Yellow, and Black Club-Tailed Dragonfly
Hovers above the Trespasser, nee Ptolemys' Trisantonis
Flirting briefly with the fast flowing river
Then quick as a streak of lightning
Flutters off, to linger above the reed-beds
As it pirouettes daintily upon the breeze
Its' reflective vibrancy, silhouetted on the Wetlands
With the appearance, from a short distance
An ethereal fancy, of a fluttering fairy
Or an obscure looking Wasp, or Hornet
Natures way, a sense of curious attraction
Supplying a Dragon, over the River Arun
Equipped with a club, now at arms
Defending the castle, with all its charms

Tears of The Sky
The blousy clouds
Burst
The tears then tumble down
Accompanied by a myriad others
As they fall
Creating puddles, and ponds
Soaking the soil
Drip dropping
Splashing
Silver globules
Jump for joy
As they bounce
Then fall into each others arms
Like long lost lovers
Such intimate embraces
As together, they trickle down hills
Off leaves of trees
An array of journeys
As they all meld together
Like a long lost friends
Soon they are freely flowing
Bleeding along arteries of rivers
Feeding nature
The watery lifeblood
Of this planet

A Strange Tale, And An Even Stranger Tail
(although curiously, there are no tales of tails?)
in a land
far far far away
lived a little tiny, incey wincey
hoojamawatchamacallitthingamybob
that spent all day
prancing
to scared of heights
to climb trees
and burrowing down holes
gave him the heebeejeebees
and when out walking in rough grass
worried about tripping over clods and such like
he couldn't swim, or paddle
so was scared of the sea
even though he lived inland
he refused to fly
even though he had wings
as was terrified of heights for this as well
but despite this
he was proclaimed leader
no votes were cast, or necessary
he became prime minister, and king
he passed no laws
he held no council
and no-one ever opposed him
largely because
he was the only inhabitant of this distant isle
he eventually died
as he ran out of grass to graze
and on that sad day
the hoojamawatchamacallitthingamybob species
expired, became extinct, and was no more
i know about him, as i was told by his ageing parrot
betwixt utterings of "pieces of eight!"
and "who's a pretty polly then?"
and "*******!"
i left the old bird to it
and sailed the seven seas
so i could now recount this tale
i am thankfully receiving counselling for this episode in my life
as i kept awakening in the night screaming
"who's a pretty polly then!"
and jumping off my perch!

The River Arun, West Sussex
Flowing by the wetlands of Arundel
Overlooked by a castle up on high
Ptolemy first called it the Trisantonis
Is the River Arun running by

Also known as the Trespasser
A Southern Celtic Brythonic interpretation of the word
An indication of its tendency to flood
For centuries, this has been observed

Part of the Arun, was rumoured to be called the Arnus
Brythonic for run, go, or flow
And that Arundel may mean Arno-Dell
Or where the Dell of the flowing river did go

Remains of Iron-Age forts
To Roman ruins, signs of its' long history
Along with Arundel Castle founded in 1067
Chalk downs rise on either side, but no mystery

At Amberley Church, by Arundels' castle walls
Ghostly sitings of a girl, with golden ringlets in her hair
Hungry Seals sometimes ventured up river
In times long past, mistakenly thinking Mermaids were there!

In the Middle-Ages, the river was known as
River of Arundel, The Arundel River, or The High Stream of Arundel, to confuse
By 1577, the first use of it's modern name was recorded
Although the other names were still often in use

The Rother, The Chilt, and Upper Arun
Tri in Roman, the three tributaries
Although Trisanto, when roughly translated
Could also mean 'one who goes across', perhaps the rivers three

Arundel for many years, served as a port
Ships docking at the Town Quay, formerly Mayors Quay
From the 13th century, coastal and cross channel trading vessels
Also passengers, Catholic priests, and soldiers, were carried across the sea

Yet by the 1840's, use of the river declined
Due to changes in coastal shipping, and the use of railway lines
By the mid 1850's, barges were replaced by coasters
And by 1886, most river traffic, was on the decline

The River Arun has seen much history
all 37 miles of it, from source to the sea
As it rises from a series of Ghylis, or Gills
All part of it'' profound majesty

It's Spring Tides, twice every Lunar month
Allowed larger vessels to venture along her waters
Some built at the Nineveh Shipyard
Such as Hoys, and Sailing Barges, becoming the Aruns' daughters

The River Arun, feeds ancient woodlands
And reedbeds, where dwell Water Voles, Kingfishers, the rare Nene Goose
Along with Bewick Swans, in the cold winter months
Where the yellow, and black, Common Club-Tailed Dragonflies, fly loose

The fast flowing Arun, second fastest in the United Kingdom
The Trespassers waters, has aided humans, and nature throughout
The Arun never crossed borders out of Sussex
And is one of the countries finest rivers, without a doubt

Life 2020 Vision
A year of fear
Where it lay in your head
That you could soon be dead
And that in a short space of time
You could become a victim of a virus crime
Like so many others
A dread to suffer
In a year 130 million caught it
In a year, 3 million bought it
The lockdown has ruled supreme
Stir crazy solitude, to make us scream
****** if you do, and ****** if you don't
****** if you will, and ****** if you won't
Some respite is given by the beaming sun
Vaccines eventually, hopefully, will have this virus on the run
The long tunnel, has a glimmer of light at its end
And one day, not so far away, we can hug a friend
Hopefully with a fancy, at a whim, and a kindness of fate
Us singularities, will maybe have a date?

My childhood mind
As i could not imagine

Did the birds get stung

Did they float in the air

Would the bees buzz
Or the birds go cheep
Or after have a cigarette
Or fall asleep?

Who was on top
Or underneath
Did they use a pill
Or a birdbee sheath?

And which was my mother
The bird, or the bee?
Shall remain for now
A mystery....

THE FARMERS DAUGHTER
Her soiled grubby apron
Frayed strings, tied in a β€˜granny’
Shoes worn and wooden, as her emotions
Her smile revealed no wickedness
Eyes, soft and blue
She shed no tears, over a fathers love
That had been dead for years
Her hopes were good, but not too good
Her laughter was, gay, jolly and infectious
More than anything, she adored her four cats
Whom prowled,hissed, and growled
He-hawed, and roared, and purred and pawed
She named all four Jim
And secretly desiring to be slim
She nibbled and gnawed
And occasionly, she would diet
Her cats were all worn, and as old as she
As she fed them fresh meat for tea
She ate with them, on the floor
For she was quite mad, and more
The police arrived one day
As her cats and cottage, were left to decay
Four men had been slain
To feed her cats, oh so vain
The men, all named Jim, were long dead
She killed them in memory of her father
Whom had occasionally shared her bed

A Time To Leave
Just a wisp, of a whispering
That gently lifts,rusting, rustic leaves
Subtle fading hues, of yellows, and reds
Ageing, a varicosity. of ebbing life
Cast along, under a darkening silver sky
Dry, and parched, with gnarled time
Fading echoes, of former glories
Where once, they reigned supreme
Amongst higher ambitions
Attached to thrones, that dust the skies
Where the world, lay beneath
Now withering, and aged
Their colour still revealed
Secrets of their former glories
And beautiful charm
As they are now swept along
A greying earth
Soon to crumble, into non-existence
The leaves have left
The trees, now bare, and barren
Silhouetted shadows
Against a dark, and dreamy
Moonscape
