Oh to have
One last chance
To smell cut grass
The rain
Coming in
To finish a poem
Or read a book
To chew not swallow
Food
Take in smells
Like never before
And see
Really see
All that is around
Play games
Revisit childhood
Games
Board games
Made up games
Card games
Journey with others in their happiness
Or sadness
Singing dancing
Shouting
Praising
Oh another chance
To Celebrate
Really celebrate
A New day
Greatful to be
Alive
To move and breathe
To acknowledge
And
Just Be
Mary Anne Norton May 2021
Friends of sort
Sharing
Ideas
A dream
Or two
Maybe even
Three
Laughter tears
From yesterday
And today
Food to share
Places to go
Books to Read
Games to play
Nothing like having
A friend
To share
A thing
Or two

A Haiku a day
Taking time to gather thoughts
Keeps the angst away

The Creation noisily
Around me
With song,crispy leaves
Flutterings of wings
Fill my soul  with hours to come
Sights of vibrant green
Camouflage brown
Changing clouds stir my very being
I give heed to my Creator
Who Died for me
GIving humble.me
A chance for
A New Life

Planets spinning round
Dancing around the full
moon
Music in the air
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Soaked in beauty
All around
Reddest of reds
Peeping out among
Velvet green
Of trees
Shades of brown
Happily hopping about
Vibrant oranges and yellows
Dancing on slender
Stems
Life is a blessing
Certainly not in disquise

Life is all around
A worm wiggles on the ground
A boy scoops him up

We are a wounded people
Searching for a balm
To cover the indifference
Strength to carry us
Forgiveness to
Heal us
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2021
You are orbits away
Circling my universe
Spinning around
And never stopping
Leaving ashes of
Residue
From unsung words
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Morning sun
Warming my face
Kissing me softly
To get up
Yesterday's sadness
Slipping into the
Darkened night
Today is a new day
A fresh day
A hang out Your
Clothes
To flap in the
Wind day
Read a good book day
Be thankful you're
Alive day
An embrace all
Day
A time to Turn things
Around day
And start all over
Again Day

A New day has dawned
Sun is peeking through the blinds
Let the sun shine in

Angel of the phone
You saved me
Listening when No one
Answered
Catching tear drops
Leaking through
The line
Laughing at jokes
That made no sense
Picking up pieces
Scattered all about
Angel of the phone line
Stay near me
And never depart
Be with me
Hold me tight
Amidst coiled wire
On duty  with never
A break
Don't hang up
Or let wires cross
Be there for me
My angel of
The phone

Today without a father
Can be hard as a rock
To experience annually
Sometimes tears seep
To the ground
Dancing into a puddle
Other times laughter
Of special memories
Echo into the universe
Thankfully advertisements will disappear
No more what to buy
To wear to use to try
For someone no longer
There
It is painful
But perhaps
Not just today
But everyday
Happy Father's Day
My loving Father
My gift to  you
Wrapped in love
Tied with a bow
Of Thanks
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Fingers growing weary
Waiting to hold
A pen
Flowing with words
Paper patiently waiting
For scratching of words
Making a sentence
Someone
Out there
Waiting to be told
Words
So a poem
Can begin
Its' journey

Nearly lost my mind
No words to share with
My friends
Found you once again

Life is a smorgasbord
           Of blessings.
Hear the morning birds
As the wind
        Whispers in you ear.
Leaves crunching
          Under your feet
As squirrels  play tag
         Jumping tree tree.
See the sun in a pink
         Summer sky.
The moon winking
     A pleasant good night
Taste the warm creamy
      Hot chocolate
New concoctions
        Meant to savor.
Smell homemade bread
       Ready to enjoy.
Baby's breath and Mom's
        Oh so sweet.
Touch a purring cat
Hands of those you love
Treasure all there is
  To offer you
A Bouquet  of Life
  Has been served.

Take a deep breath in
Claiming the moment
of Life
Quiet and listen
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2021
Breeze whistling through
My sleeves
Sending chills up
My spine
Bringing a warm
Smile
Upon my face
Transporting me to
A time
Not too long ago
Where leaves of
Golden color
Gaily spun in
A whirlwind of
Flashy clothing
Leaving behind
An aroma of
Woody smoke
And a reminder
For some
Apple cider tea

Something about the
Word Care
Care package
Care bear
Care notes
I Care
Someone steps out
Of comfort zone
To bring comfort to
Someone else
Though it feels
Nice to be cared for
It's nicer to Care

Fall is drawing near
Oranges and bronze appearing
Time again for change
Fall is coming. Colors are
Changing.weather is too..Here we go again
Mary Anne Norton Feb 2022
Oh the things
That we shared
Toys to play with
And fight over
Games to play
Win or lose
Tops and sweaters
A tear or two
Tissues for blowing
Straight from the box
Tickets to movies
Listening to songs
Sharing stories
From books
And friends
Writing letters
Sharing news
Hellos and goodbyes
Somehow knowing
Nothing could end
Thinking of you , so long ago..
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2021
Bit by fragile bit
You bully them all
around
Till nothing is left
Mary Anne Norton Feb 2022
Saw the moon
In several phases
Full and bright
Up in the sky
Casting shadows
On snowy ground
Peek a booing
Between purple cloud
Appearing with glimmer of light
Got me to thinking
My phases are
Like the moon
Nights full of hope
With dreams ahead
Of a new tomorrow
To share with
Our world
Thoughts peek a booing
Before Slipping away
Getting caught in
Purple cloud
I was looking at the moon.

Could have been someone's dinner
How lucky you were

Death is but
A breath away
Waiting to catch you
As you fall
Into the abyss
Life holds on strong
To moments more
Precious than gold
A treasure not to Bury
But rather to enjoy
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Did you know
How much you
Would miss me
No tea to pour
With cream
Jokes making no
Sense at all
A scrabble game
After work
Junking after a
Very hard day of
Work
Praying out loud
Just driving around
Watching nature
At its finest
Tears we shared
Laughter and joy
Yes es and No's
And cool beans
Laughter and pain
Heartaches and tears
Snack foods and
Root beer floats
Scrabble again
And again
New words learned
Old words used
Will you move on
Or will you
Stay
Are we friends
I know I am
Did you
Written for a friend

Evening is winding down
Hues of pale blue
Beginning to turn
Dark blueberry jam
In the evening sky
Birds are starting
To head home
Looking for comfort
In their warm nest
Children coming inside
Ready or not
For a warm bath
Last minute bedtime
Stories being told
Prayers said lights dimmed
Goodnight kisses
Well wishes
Now I lay me
Down to sleep
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Flying high the sky
Winged creatures soar
Twisting and turning
Freedom all about
Over roof tipped houses
Cluttered streets
Littered with garbage
And debris
Circling over rivers
And streams
Blanketed mountain tops
Welcoming trees
Oh to fly
High above and over
The majestic sights
All around
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2021
Today. Someone woke
Up without a parent,
A coworker, a friend.
May you be blest today
As tears sadly , rapidly
Drip drop
Into a pool of memories
May you be bathed
With the wetness
And dried in the pain
May the sound of
A hero's voice
Echo in your heart
And the mornings
And the evenings
Not forgotten
May a light of Hope
Shine down
Deep within your heart
And may you be
Stilled and comforted
This day
I offered my Mass and prayers for you..Be Blest
Mary Anne Norton Feb 2022
Need to fly away
High above the barren trees
Leaving not a trace
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Poems I have written
Gathered as an
Afterthought
Of ones '

conversation
Or goings on
Swallowed in the
Heat of turmoil
Or tears flowing
From a broken heart
Digested and put
Thoughtfully into
Words
Words spoken with
Care
Ready to once again
Be digested
And tended to
Mary Anne Norton May 2021
Given a new day
Can make it
A Prayer
Let it give
Fruit
Can destroy it
And let it decay
Up to me
To dance with
Amen
Mary Anne Norton Sep 2021
People are sleeping
Tired from day's work
Or even play
Fairy dust spinning round
Soothing busy souls
Hard at work
In dreamland
Perhaps a special place
For some
A nightmare for others
Some will waken
Refreshed and ready
To go
While others will
Want to hide
"Good night  John Boy"

The smell of cinnamon
Drifting up the stairs
Knew St.Pats arrived
Loaves of bread for the sisters from each sibling
Aromatic bread ready to be eaten.
Church came first with temptation in the pew. Were thoughts on bread or the priest.
Oh to be a sister for the day.

What am I saying. A slice of green bread and green milk await my trip home.

Ice ***** from the sky
Hail bouncing back at me
Gone in a moment
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Thoughts running wild
Can't seem to stop
.the flood gate has
Opened
Pouring out thoughts
So near and far
Faster and faster
They flow
Over rocky roads
Causing turmoil
In my mind

When I feel lonely
The moonsomehow
lights my way
The sun trades places
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
How sad the song
Of croaking frogs
Far into the night
The melancholy  sound
Of a hoot owl
Near by
Echoing of wolves
Drowning out
Quiet sounds of
Evening's close
How sad the song
Of restless children
Roaming the streets
Looking for someone
To be their friend
Even if for
An evening
Adults too old and
Tired to care
As loneliness creeps in
How sad the song
Of tears running
Steadily down
A blackened eye
The noise of
A rumbling stomach
And crashing trash lids
From looking for food
How sad the sound
Barefeet bleeding feet
Unsneakered feet
Walking in streets of glass
How sad the song
When sung by
You or me

.

Not served for desert
And sometimes hard to
swallow
Slice of humble pie
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Words have such meaning
Sought after and
Longed for
Ready to be unearthed
To be tended to
With a beat from
The heart
And ink from
A pen
A song to put into
Words
After tapping out
Their rhythm
Lengthy or miniscule
Heavy or light
Somber
Mysterious
Breaking hearts
Showering with joy
Words to hold on to
And Words to let go
Words to start
And Words to finish
To say hello
Or even goodbye
Words are important
Even more so
When written from
Start to finish
Sometimes hard
To get started
Or even end
But what is done
Is done
Only one's self
Can dispel the magic
Of the richness
Of words
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
My heart is ready
Amidst it's fault and
It's pain
Waiting for Gado
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2020
Upcoming alarm on my phone
All I have to do is push
       Dismiss
The signal sounds and I'm prepared to move forward or snooze
DO I risk moving on
Or catching zzzz's
Will it really make a difference
I've been  forewarned
The answer ahead
    Relies on me
Mary Anne Norton Aug 2021
You left the earth
Way too soon
On a journey
I cannot follow
Until it is
My time
But till then
I will feel your warmth
In sunny days
Share memories
With each sip of tea
And clinging to the cup
Close my eyes
And wipe my tears away
Your smile will bring
Me back to this
Harsh reality
But a glimpse of you
In my unsettling dreams
Will be a balm
For my bruising soul
One day I will
Take this journey
And see you smile
Once again

Scared of a new day coming
Don't know what I'll do
