Thunder
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
A boom fills the air
The dog runs under the bed
Hoping for coverage

All Around
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Soaked in beauty
All around
Reddest of reds
Peeping out among
Velvet green
Of trees
Shades of brown
Happily hopping about
Vibrant oranges and yellows
Dancing on slender
Stems
Life is a blessing
Certainly not in disquise

Ode to those
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Today my song
Goes out to.you
With tones of
Deep reflection
Echoing the pain
You may have
Of annual memories
You wish to keep
Deep within
Or toss heavily out
Memories over time
Resurfaced each year
Painful loving destructive
Depending
Some taken away
By a bullet a deal
Gone wrong
A quarrel
Drunk driver
Sickness
Others by choice
Never to return
May you reach
A high note
And be covered
In love
That will fill
A breaking heart
And cover the void
Blessed Father's Day
To you

Annual Happy
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Today without a father
Can be hard as a rock
To experience annually
Sometimes tears seep
To the ground
Dancing into a puddle
Other times laughter
Of special memories
Echo into the universe
Thankfully advertisements will disappear
No more what to buy
To wear to use to try
For someone no longer
There
It is painful
But perhaps
Not just today
But everyday
Happy Father's Day
My loving Father
My gift to  you
Wrapped in love
Tied with a bow
Of Thanks

Sense of You
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Cannot see your
Flowing dress
Dancing in
The Summer's
Breeze
Nor hear your
Steps
On cold concrete
Echoing in the
Dreary night
Cannot  taste the
Freshly brewed coffee
Steaming from your cup
But can smell
Your fresh perfumed
Hair permeating
The Darkened sky
Reminding me
How good it is
To have my friend
All around
Saw a movie in which someone could see.   though
Blind.

Gathering of words
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Poems I have written
Gathered as an
Afterthought
Of ones '

conversation
Or goings on
Swallowed in the
Heat of turmoil
Or tears flowing
From a broken heart
Digested and put
Thoughtfully into
Words
Words spoken with
Care
Ready to once again
Be digested
And tended to

A Poems' Journey
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Fingers growing weary
Waiting to hold
A pen
Flowing with words
Paper patiently waiting
For scratching of words
Making a sentence
Someone
Out there
Waiting to be told
Words
So a poem
Can begin
Its' journey

How sad the song
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
How sad the song
Of croaking frogs
Far into the night
The melancholy  sound
Of a hoot owl
Near by
Echoing of wolves
Drowning out
Quiet sounds of
Evening's close
How sad the song
Of restless children
Roaming the streets
Looking for someone
To be their friend
Even if for
An evening
Adults too old and
Tired to care
As loneliness creeps in
How sad the song
Of tears running
Steadily down
A blackened eye
The noise of
A rumbling stomach
And crashing trash lids
From looking for food
How sad the sound
Barefeet bleeding feet
Unsneakered feet
Walking in streets of glass
How sad the song
When sung by
You or me

Nature At Its Best
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Funny how our memories
Are recovered through
Nature
Graveled trail to echo
The beat of your step
While birds chatter
From hanging branch
Sun peaks through trees
Leaving shadows to chase
On the chalky ground
Smells fresh as the
Beginning of time
A bubbling creek
Renews the senses
And plants new memories
Oh for the continous
Repetition
Of a symphony
Cascading with Life
Finally took a walk on the trail., after a brief hiatus

Misconnection
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
I just cried so hard
You just smiled and laughed
It was all over
This haiku made up. Actually
thoughts from what others
have said.

Importance of Words
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Words have such meaning
Sought after and
Longed for
Ready to be unearthed
To be tended to
With a beat from
The heart
And ink from
A pen
A song to put into
Words
After tapping out
Their rhythm
Lengthy or miniscule
Heavy or light
Somber
Mysterious
Breaking hearts
Showering with joy
Words to hold on to
And Words to let go
Words to start
And Words to finish
To say hello
Or even goodbye
Words are important
Even more so
When written from
Start to finish
Sometimes hard
To get started
Or even end
But what is done
Is done
Only one's self
Can dispel the magic
Of the richness
Of words

Did you
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Did you know
How much you
Would miss me
No tea to pour
With cream
Jokes making no
Sense at all
A scrabble game
After work
Junking after a
Very hard day of
Work
Praying out loud
Just driving around
Watching nature
At its finest
Tears we shared
Laughter and joy
Yes es and No's
And cool beans
Laughter and pain
Heartaches and tears
Snack foods and
Root beer floats
Scrabble again
And again
New words learned
Old words used
Will you move on
Or will you
Stay
Are we friends
I know I am
Did you
Written for a friend

A New Day
Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Morning sun
Warming my face
Kissing me softly
To get up
Yesterday's sadness
Slipping into the
Darkened night
Today is a new day
A fresh day
A hang out Your
Clothes
To flap in the
Wind day
Read a good book day
Be thankful you're
Alive day
An embrace all
Day
A time to Turn things
Around day
And start all over
Again Day

Mary Anne Norton Jun 2021
Thoughts running wild
Can't seem to stop
.the flood gate has
Opened
Pouring out thoughts
So near and far
Faster and faster
They flow
Over rocky roads
Causing turmoil
In my mind

Mary Anne Norton May 2021
Given a new day
Can make it
A Prayer
Let it give
Fruit
Can destroy it
And let it decay
Up to me
To dance with
Amen

Life as it was
Mary Anne Norton May 2021
We laugh we grieve
Of times together
Shared
Sadness Joy
Appearing on the surface
Disappearing into our hearts
Memories we shared
Are gone forever
Buried into the soil
All we share now
Is a glimpse of the heart
A whisper of a Prayer
What was
Is Gone
What is
Here to stay

A Chance
Mary Anne Norton May 2021
Oh to have
One last chance
To smell cut grass
The rain
Coming in
To finish a poem
Or read a book
To chew not swallow
Food
Take in smells
Like never before
And see
Really see
All that is around
Play games
Revisit childhood
Games
Board games
Made up games
Card games
Journey with others in their happiness
Or sadness
Singing dancing
Shouting
Praising
Oh another chance
To Celebrate
Really celebrate
A New day
Greatful to be
Alive
To move and breathe
To acknowledge
And
Just Be

A friend
Mary Anne Norton May 2021
Friends of sort
Sharing
Ideas
A dream
Or two
Maybe even
Three
Laughter tears
From yesterday
And today
Food to share
Places to go
Books to Read
Games to play
Nothing like having
A friend
To share
A thing
Or two

Words

Words that go
Flooding through
My weary body
Creating storms
In my restless mind causing me to toss and turn

Till the crack
Of Dawn
Hoping for words
To cast a spell
Into the light
Of a new day

Here I sit
Pen in hand
Paper stacked high
In mountains
Waiting to be tossed

Appear
What happens next

Arrival of empty
Thoughts

Lost and found
Mary Anne Norton May 2021
Couldn't get on
Long time coming
Poems scattered
Lost forever
In the ashes
Of my heart
Where my poetic
Muses
Lay scattered
Round the world
I'm back
Hopefully to stay
Lest the technology
Of time
Destroys me
Once again

Green cinnamon bread
Mary Anne Norton Mar 2020
The smell of cinnamon
Drifting up the stairs
Knew St.Pats arrived
Loaves of bread for the sisters from each sibling
Aromatic bread ready to be eaten.
Church came first with temptation in the pew. Were thoughts on bread or the priest.
Oh to be a sister for the day.

What am I saying. A slice of green bread and green milk await my trip home.

Mary Anne Norton Mar 2020
Lost my page
Lost my words
Pen can't write
Thoughts won't come
Emptiness takes over
Goes deeper then this
Clear the mind
Start again
Once was lost
But now I'm found.

AHHHto be Alive
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2020
The Creation noisily
Around me
With song,crispy leaves
Flutterings of wings
Fill my soul  with hours to come
Sights of vibrant green
Camouflage brown
Changing clouds stir my very being
I give heed to my Creator
Who Died for me
GIving humble.me
A chance for
A New Life

Upcoming alarm on my phone
All I have to do is push
       Dismiss
The signal sounds and I'm prepared to move forward or snooze
DO I risk moving on
Or catching zzzz's
Will it really make a difference
I've been  forewarned
The answer ahead

Blessings
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2020
Life is a smorgasbord
           Of blessings.
Hear the morning birds
As the wind
        Whispers in you ear.
Leaves crunching
          Under your feet
As squirrels  play tag
         Jumping tree tree.
See the sun in a pink
         Summer sky.
The moon winking
     A pleasant good night
Taste the warm creamy
      Hot chocolate
New concoctions
        Meant to savor.
Smell homemade bread
       Ready to enjoy.
Baby's breath and Mom's
        Oh so sweet.
Touch a purring cat
Hands of those you love
Treasure all there is
  To offer you
A Bouquet  of Life
  Has been served.

Perchance
Mary Anne Norton Jan 2020
Taking a giant leap
From the muck and mire
Called Life.
Ready to wipe clean
The sludge and the mud
Of yesterday's mistakes.
The sun is appearing
Will it harden or soften
This thing called Life
