Music Says It All
Hank Love Apr 2020
I guess there are those
Who live inside their radios
To escape from the pain
In the world that weve all come to know

Then there are those
In need a womans gentle touch
For when life pulls us down
And it all gets to be too much

They hide in their rooms
Hide in their minds
Can't seem to read between the lines
When the hard times fall
You know music says it all

They play it in the bars
Among the broken hearts
In the jukebox on the wall
Where the long shadows fall
You know music says it all

Underneath the stars
The city lights dont shine so bright
So hold on to the love
And hold on with all our might

You may be just
Another face in the crowd
But you can't see the sunshine
If you never come around

They hide in their rooms
Hide in their minds
Can't seem to read between the lines
When the hard times fall
You know music says it all

They play it in the bars
Among the broken hearts
In the jukebox on the wall
Where the long shadows fall
You know music says it all

When you've taken the fall
You know music says it all

When the curtain calls
You know music says it all

Just Like You
Hank Love Jun 2020
I feel exactly
Just like you
Under my skin
My blood is blue

Our color is different
But we are still the same
I wish you thought so
It's such a shame

I have my rights
Just like you
You have feelings
I've got them too

Well my friend
It stays the same
That everyone thinks
That we're to blame

Love doesn't have color
Love has no pride
Why can't we just
Put race aside

I've been hurt
I've been accused
For committing a crime
That I didn't do

They throw their stones
They wave their signs
They say I don't belong
But I think it's time

To feel
Just like me
To heal
Just like me

Cause love has no color
Love has no pride
Why can't we put
Our race aside

Well my friend
I got killed today
For going down one road
And I lost my way

But things are different
Up above the sky
Still I can't help
But wonder why

Cause love has no color
Love has no pride
Why oh why can't we just
Put race aside

Me, Myself and I
Hank Love Apr 2020
I got bored trying to **** time.

The Doctor will be here soon.
I just have to wait a few more days.
"Hes not coming for you." Shut up!
He's got my discharge papers.
He'll sign them, and I'll get to go home!
I get to leave! He promised.
"You're not getting out of here." AHH!
You know, being in here for a few days,
I thought I'd go a little crazy.
But what's three days shy of ten years?
Look at me! Have you seen
What darkness does to a person?
It makes them mad.
My friends aren't with me anymore.
They got well. But I'm not alone.
Hey buddy. Are you my friend?
Why are you saying
The same thing that I'm saying?
Stop staring at me!
Ten years is a long time
When the only people you talk to
Are the ones that aren't even there?
"We're here." Go Away!
I'm ready to go doctor.
What? What do you mean
Mentally unstable?
What do you mean I have to stay?
No! You promised me! You lied to me!
"Why did you **** him?" Shut up!
"He had your papers." Leave me alone!
"You're never getting out of here now."
*******! *******! Empty promises!
"You belong to us." AHH!
"Say Hello to the nice people."
I don't wanna! I don't wanna!
I don't wanna! I don't wanna!

I'm sorry....Have I said something?

To You From Me
Hank Love Feb 2020
I don't play for money
I don't care for fame
I'd rather have a soul
And forget my own name

I play for the people
Both happy and sad
To give them the joy
That I've never always had

This is a song
For the people there
Who are down to
Their pennies and their dimes
Yes tough times ahead
Will keep you in bed
This is for those who
Don't have a reason to rhyme

And the people gather round
The piano there
Those who have
A reason to sing

Cause they know that it's free
What they came to see
All the love and the joy
Life has to bring

This is a song
For those people too
Who have a reason to live
And they laugh and they love
And thank the Lord above
That they take less than
What they give

Now i know
Hank Love Jul 2020
In every rose
There is a thorn
A feeling sharp and strong

To play it safe
And not to rush
Until a true love comes along

You spoke to me
A time before
And listening was my worst mistake

That I will know
When love has come
But all I had was a heart to break

And every time
I fell in love
It seems all I hit was ground
And now I know
And now I know
And I have to reap what I sow

But if i knew then
What i know now
Would things still be the same?
But now I know
Now I know
And i only have myself to blame

And this is why
I built these walls
A fortress for my heart
And now I know
And now I know
That my pain is a work of art

But if I could
Change the past
Would I make the same mistake?
But I can't turn back the time
And I can't give my heart to break

And now I know,
Now I know
And I have to reap what I sow

Notebook
Hank Love Sep 2020
My Notebook,
How I miss you,
And our daily conversations.
I miss the way I clothed you.
Not with outfits,
But with words for all to see and hear.
I miss how it felt,
The continuous flick of the wrist
After each word I would write
And how the way each one
Made me feel just a bit smarter.
You were the canvas,
And for once something in my life
Felt absolutely beautiful.
I miss the adventures
We went on together
And The constant foes and heroes
That we met along the way.
And the millions of people we birthed,
Who's lives are still yet to be written.
I miss the way that I was responsible
For what happened in your world,
When I have no control in mine.
And your lines, so neat and straight
Blending in with every cursive word.
The way the pen touched the paper
Was a thing of such majesty.
And like artists, a poets job
Is to make the world a bit more beautiful
One letter at a time.

The Masks We Wear
Hank Love May 2020
What mask is this
I'm not so sure
It once was mine
But that was before

Who is this man
Hes no friend of mine
His face looks so familiar
Another place another time

We all have something to hide
But it doesn't change
Who we are inside

We are the in between
Something no ones ever seen
We only reveal
What we can afford to lose
The masks we wear
Is the life we choose

They call him two faced
A hypocrite it's true
They say he would lie to your face
And say the sky is green
And that the grass is blue

They say he would stab you in the back
Even though he never threw a stone
Yeah you're friends might not care
But its better than being alone

We all have something to hide
But it doesn't change
Who we are inside

We are the in between
Something no ones ever seen
We only reveal
What we can afford to lose
The masks we wear
Is the life we choose

Porcelain Doll
Hank Love Feb 2020
There's a girl in a window
At the coffee shop
And Lord shes seen it all
The way she's sitting looking pretty
She looks like a porcelain doll

Shes seen happy faces
And people without a reason to rhyme
They gather around her
And sit on the floor
To hear her story and forget about life

Can you feel the sunshine
Through the window
Does it ever get lonely at night
Does your heart still feel the cracks
From another owner in another time

There's a girl In the window
At a coffee shop
And man she's been around the world
In every place

Shes been handed down
In her faded blue gown
To try and bring
A smile to your face

Can you feel the sunshine
Through the window
Does it ever get lonely at night
Does your heart still feel the cracks
From another owner in another time

She has her dreams
But no one to tell
Her eyes tell a story of their own
Cause shes seen it all
And shes had a ball

They say goodbye
And they wish her well
They walk away
And leave her alone

Can you feel the sunshine
Through the window
Does it ever get lonely at night
Does your heart still feel the cracks
From another owner in another time

In a place what tends my soul to rot.

And differences I would set aside
Only then with joy could I abide.
But such wish is beyond my reach
To learn such things
So I might teach.

When things start to get real
I'm done with doing your ***** work
And showing you how I feel

You know I can do much better
I won't take this anymore
Ill take  my chances
There's plenty of opened doors

So heres to the yellow taxi cab
I bet he makes his living from you
It'd save you some money
If you bought the line
And took time to think it through
Theres more to life than the backseat
You know those needles won't do
So heres to the yellow taxi cab
And the road that ends with you

You know you can't hold
A chain on me
I won't let you drag me down
I'm through with taking
The fall for you
I'm tired of being your clown

You know I can do much better
I won't take this anymore

Of course, everyone is their own critic.

But still it still shines

Remember to love yourself because

You are the reason people write poetry.

Mind Games
Hank Love May 2020
Keep your distance
Stay away
It's the same old thing
On a different day
Tell me is this all how it  ends?

Be sure to wear
A mask on your face
Everyone's running
But this isn't a race
Tell me is this all how it ends?

Doors are closed
We have no jobs
A poor man has
A rich man robs
Cant you see?

It's not over yet
I'm calling your bluff
This isn't a game
We've had enough
Of your mind games
We're not down and out
Keep moving on
I promise we'll see
A brand new dawn
And we'll make it through
Your mind games

How long are you gonna
Keep up this charade?
Were living in a world
Full of masquerades
I dont know anyone anymore
What are you hiding for?

We're not really living
In fact we're scared to death
But we'll keep fighting
Until we take our last breath
Yeah and maybe then
Maybe we'll see an end

Doors are closed
We have no jobs
A poor man has
A rich man robs
Cant you see?

It's not over yet
I'm calling your bluff
This isn't a game
We've had enough

And we'll make it through

Hank Love Feb 2020
Tonight, I wont be sleeping
In my own bed
I'm growing tired
And see the signs ahead

Tonight, I wont be
In my own home town
Troubles come drenched in fear
Blind my eyes and throw me out

I'm a dreamer
And a drifter
A fighter
But a lover still
I'm an outcast a hoodlum
A gypsy without a wagon wheel
Finding my way
By the stars that shine so bright
And Lord only knows
Where I'll be tonight

Tonight, I won't be
Missing you
You really took a toll on me
Baby it's true

Tonight, I've turned around
And said Goodbye
My shadow walks beside me
I'm alone but it's all right

I'm a dreamer
And a drifter
A fighter
But a lover still
I'm an outcast a hoodlum
A gypsy without a wagon wheel
Finding my way
By the stars that shine so bright
And Lord only knows
Where I'll be tonight

And, as we grow,
While time passes through the glass,
May we always remember
That, with time, people change.
Of course, even if they don't,
May we always remember
That it's ourselves
That we hurt in the long run.
For one cannot forgive the past,
The odds of history repeating itself
Are inevitable.
And if one cannot forget the past,
They cannot hope to have a future.

We may be treated like animals
But we will not become animals.
Every day of freedom,
Is an act of faith
We have all chosen this-
To live here free as long as we can.
And if we should die, trying to live,
Then at least we die
Like human beings.
And our best revenge, is to survive.

Alas, the feeling has kept me ill
That mocking passion within me still.
For I know well, I am shorn of my pride
And no manner in life shall provide.

How I loathe the poets
In a time before!
And the use of language
Which exists no more!

Try-how I try!
To comprehend the subtle wording
And the use of literature today
From yesterday converting!

And even the pen! A simple pen!
Mocks me with its cruel indifference
And the blank page, which words appear
Though my mind, shows interference!

Critics all! And I am mine!
How I long to make a piece so fine!
Alas the feeling since has left me ill
That mocking passion within me stills!

Isn't it a shame
Does it not sound absurd
You turned on the radio today
But nobody said a word

It all seems strange
It all seems stark
The bombs have stopped dalling
And the worlds gone dark

Between the satellites
And falling stars
And the big man on T.V
In the midst of all this silence
You can barely hear us scream

Sirens go by
Choppers fill the air
They spread their wings
Does anyone care?

I miss the old days
But they've all gone
Children out playing
In the smell of a fresh cut lawn
But the sun never came out today

It all seems strange
It all seems stark
The bombs have stopped dalling
And the worlds gone dark

Between the satellites
And falling stars
And the big man on T.V
In the midst of all this silence
You can barely hear us scream

A wildfire inside my soul.
I breathe you in,
But you choke me as I let you go.

You shine in my darkness,
But you burn me with the sunlight.
You give me wings,
But they're broken and I can't fly.

You chain me up
Still you gave me the key.
But my hands are tied,
And I can't break free.

Such a fate is not my theme!
For a life deprived of an earthly pow'r
On Earth only hope is found in dreams!

Still, I can hope
Though that word since from me departed
Hope is a thing of a passing hour
And desire has left me broken hearted

Desire! What is desire
But the things in life so undeserved
What then if not desire
Has life been better served?

Us Against the World
Hank Love Jul 2020
Empty homes and broken hearts
Lonely souls and falling stars
Make a wish and hold on tight
Pray you'll make it through the night

Where did we go wrong
And where do we go from here
Do we even belong
The answers there but it's not very clear

All these lives and all these people
Burning bridges fallen temples
All these plans that you've been making
Meanwhile it's my heart you're breaking
It's so dark, it's so cold
I'd never be the one to say I told you so
But It all seems so absurd
When its us against the world

Choppers fill the air
It's nearly sunset
The people just don't really care
And there's no respect

Smoke fills the sky, oh why
Did this have to happen
The sirens and lights go by
I can't imagine

All these lives and all these people
Burning bridges fallen temples
All these plans that you've been making
Meanwhile it's my heart you're breaking
It's so dark, it's so cold
I'd never be the one to say I told you so

Can't ever love me

I want to feel
A women's skin
Every time I get close
I fall back down again

I want someone
Who won't chain me up
Don't box me in

But it all depends

These eyes have seen much pain
And this heart is worn
I want a love just not undercover
A love so pure the veil is torn

I want to love
But the feeling is getting old

Did you ever have dreams
To run away

Has so many roads to choose
Until you turn around
And realize it's only you

Shes a woman
In a man's world

But she's still

She's a woman
Trying to make her way
Looking through the window
And waiting for the day

Did you ever think of me
Did you ever see me passing by
Could you see the stars
When you looked
Through the window at night

I hope there comes a day
When your free to make a choice
I hope you're doing fine
But I'd love to hear your voice

Shes a woman

Writing love letters In the sand
A spirit no one could tame
Holding beauty in your hands

In the instant that you feel so free
In the second that the truth reveals
Running wild up your spine
And then you know that it's real

There are signs we choose to follow
There are roads we choose to take
A bitter pill that's hard to swallow
Too big of a decision to make

Every road leads back around
Soon enough if you take the wrong turn
And sometimes all you ever need
Is someone to help you learn

And all I ever needed was someone
That would teach me how to fly
Someone to open my door
And turn me loose into the sky

And all I ever needed was someone
To show me how to shine
Like the stars above
And then burn bright like the sun
All I'll ever need is you
You're that someone

She was only eighteen
How time flies so fast
Living in a smaller town
Where she knew
She wouldn't last

She had dreams
To make it on her own
Dissapear behind the scenes
Looking for the love she never
Found at home

You're a bird spread your wings
Your still onward bound
Destined for greater things
Flying so high and I hope
You never touch the ground
I know you'll find your place
In this crazy world
You're like a whirlwind , baby
And you're gonna give
New York City a twirl

She was gonna paint the stars
On Broadway
While her own light grows dim
Saying Goodbye to the lonely nights
Wishing she were still with him

Finding her name in all the pages
But did you read the news today
She looks in the mirror
And she only ages
Waiting for her chance to fly away

You're a bird spread your wings
Your still onward bound
Destined for greater things
Flying so high and I hope
You never touch the ground
I know you'll find your place

That I might hold it in abundance
I was given weakness
That I might succumb to it.

And though I asked for love,

I had not known love,
But love knew well of me.

I asked for compliance with love,
Though it never once held favor.
And while I could not

When I think of those New York lights
Friday nights
Taking a stroll
Through the city streets alone
The days are never warm
And the people are cold
Sitting there freezing looking for a hand to hold
It's gotten a little crazy
You can hear it on the news every day

The lights dont shine
As bright as they say
In New York City
And a rose can't grow
Between the sidewalk cracks
The marquee won't save your soul
And once you sell it
You can never have it back

I never realized the passing faces
Of different races
Walking down the Avenue every day
Captivated by the different sounds
The rumours around
The city that never sleeps
At least that's what they say

The lights dont shine
As bright as they say
In New York City
And a rose can't grow
Between the sidewalk cracks
The marquee won't save your soul
And once you sell it
You can never have it back

The Show Must Go On
Hank Love Feb 2020
There's an empty stage there in Vegas
Where the piano man wouldn't play
The people are cheering
But they've grown restless
As his Hope's and his dreams fly away

And they sing to him a memory
About a different time another day
Where he could get by
With a glass of wine
And drink all of his problems away

Theres a piano on that stage in Vegas
Waiting for a tune to sing
While he sits at his desk
Both night and day
But no bells ever seem to ring

No it doesn't sound how he planned it
He can't find the right words to rhyme
He picks up the pen and plays the keys
And listens one very last time

But he knows no one will listen
No one will like what he plays
The moment he's been waiting for
Stays just another dream today

And the crowd begins to grow weary
Most of them have already gone
He looks over his shoulder
As his feet grow colder
And says "The show must go on!"

Because everything looks smaller
When you're on top of the world,
Only to be pushed over the edge.
If you take away a man's addiction,
You've taken away everything he has, You've taken the air he breathes.
All I'm looking for is my certain high,

Dulling my senses, shrouding me placing me in a situation and a relatively deep and dark abyss where my once every joyous memory my every childhood dream, residing in an area that even I wasn't sure existed, remaining to be seen but had I journeyed long and far to find that land - My mind.

"How Fascinating your mind must be!"
Take a look inside, and you will see.
It's very dark, don't lose your way.
People often visit, though never stay.

"In your head, what would we find?"
Things are broken, so please be kind!
Scattered pictures from a time before,
You will find it's quite a bore!

"How lonely it must be inside your brain!"
It is a place that's seen much pain.
Deep in earth, my love lies cold,
From every lie it has been told!

"We've changed our minds
We have our doubts!"
Then that makes two
Please get me out!

What game would have such an impact on a man's own soul?

"Life."

The ring upon my finger
And the sweat upon my brow
A perfume around me sweetly lingers
As I take my solemn vows.
The jewel upon her hand
Has since left me with a feeling, grand
And now I am well endowed.
And my love, who loves me fair,
Looked as the angels with golden hair
Had found her purpose being there
And my heart is delighted now.
While a feeling came o'er me
As she spoke these sacred vows
Such desire burned within me
Our love, is like a fire now.
Love! From love I could not be shaken
God forbid I'm lost in dreams,
And if so I will not waken!
Lest sadness over me be taken
And these vows would be forsaken
Then in truth I would be dying now.
