Orange leaves once green
Twist and turn through the azure sky
Dancing with multicoloured friends to the melody of the wind
But gravity brings them down to earth
The party’s over
They lose their colour
And then it snows and they disappear
Under it’s white cloak
Crumbling and dissolving they trickle through the ground
Until they reach their mighty root that welcomes them back home
Reunited
They’re all connected
Next spring the orange leaves are green again

Don’t take this the wrong way
But we’ve got a problem in our hands
It has smooth, shiny skin
No limbs but has you gripping
A portal for information
A place you can escape in
For all the instant gratification that you are craving

Hundreds of songs shuffle awkwardly through Alexa’s mind
Watching unlimited movies is making us blind
And what are we doing to our insides?
Did you know Netflix’s main competition is sleep and time?
It’s my time...but a new original series coincides

I check my social media while alone at home
Red and green flashes give me hits
Sugar rush but soon I’m feeling ****
Dopamine release is making me *****
Fireworks to my eyes and ears
Draining away my good years
My attention divides and streams to all the screens
Barely a trickle left for me

In a fantasy where everything is instant and bright we have forgotten that great things take time
So please open your eyes and look at that clutter of information you’ve got from your device
I think I want to Marie kondo my life

So decide
What have you been sacrificing?
What actually sparks joy and nourishes you?
Do you have any candy that should be crushed?
And a question that google can’t answer...what are your truly searching for?

A dance for your fingers
Rainbow skittles flashing
Each more colourful
Sour shots
That try and convince you your life isn’t as bright
Leaving you thoroughly unsatisfied

Green under-ripe fruit
Ripens slowly
To that perfect sweetness
Succulent mangoes
Crimson strawberries
Inky blueberries
Swallow their soft flesh and let it nourish you
Before it’s too late
And their skin becomes dry and wrinkled
Black spots appearing
Bruised flesh that leaves a bitter taste
Eat it now
Before the fur settles on the fruit
Do not take your youth
For granted

We go about our lives
Hooked to our devices
That have become our vices
Whilst strolling through streets full of life
We scroll through Instagram
Feeding us photos of perfect faces, places and bodies
What is everyone else doing? Wearing? Eating?
Are they more successful than me?
Are they having more fun than me?
Are they happier than me?
It's creating anxiety
We judge our lives by the crafted photos they choose to put up
The filtered, photoshopped poses with the best lighting
Concealing all the flaws
Why are we deceiving each other?
Distorted reality never looked so pretty
Don't be fooled by their followers, likes or happy faces
It's not real
Why are you trying to escape this beautiful world waiting to be discovered
Staring at your LCD screen is making you miss the sun
