this lazy
afternoon
sunlight,

will carry
me to
the charcoal
night.

where there
is only
one face
I want
to see.

waiting on
our
front
porch
for the
world
to know...

that you
belong
to me.

taking
nothing
for granted.

all is
a daily
prayer
in your
eyes.

and three
strong
souled
children
to raise
in God's
light.

and only
you will
do.

till death
do us
part.

with my
arms
raised
to heaven
high.

will
I go

and wait.

till God
brings
you

home

In the
black and

photographs
of you
that I keep
deep inside
my mind.

I keep
them in view
in everything
that I do.

and someday
there will
be one
of you
and I.

and I will
remember
that moment
as if I
had lived
it a hundred
years or
more.

no illusions
or past lovers
to remember.

no broken
hearts or
dreams
to heal.

you are
my moment
when everything
is free,

and true

and under
a billion stars
at night,

your love
will bathe
me,

and your love
will call me
from the
depths
of my soul.

and I am
certain
that for
forever
I will see
a fairy tale,

there awaiting
me in your
eyes.

where angels
soar and
I am a child
of these
nights

no longer
afraid of
the black

or the
loneliness

I see
her buzzing
like a big
bull fly
up and down,

and then
occasionally
a sideways turn
across love's
kitchen window.

and then
here it
comes again "swap!"
one swing on
top of
another
back to
back without
mercy or
pity in
this dying flight
of circumstance.

but she
will probably
escape this
fate too...
she has for
the last 40 years
or so....
and then

until one
day there
will be only
be pieces of
her smeared
red and black
across this
hot afternoon
kitchen glass.

she calls
it falling in
and out of
love.

and then
finally August 11, 2018
2:20 p,m, in

it happened...

"swap!" and
that is
all there
is to that.

she's broken...

these are
different
times now
that define
you,

a marriage
lost a family
broken.

and this
sky will
never look
the same
again.

but you
are not
dead and
you are
far from
dying,

even though
at night
it sometimes
seems that it is
so.

and I sit
and wait
just outside
your hearts
window and
I am
patient and
I am kind.

kiss each
morning sunrise
a little deeper
each day
and you
will heal.

for I
have been
where you
are now.

and then
love changed

everything.

It was the
moment that
they were
going to
roll me into
surgery,

and it
was perfect
with all
of my loved
ones sitting
there.

my next
moments
in God's
hands
like
a sunrise
or a sunset.

and it was
not odd
what I thought
about most,

and of course
my wife it
was you,

I didn't want
to see you
cry my intentions
for you
were only
the best.

but there
we were
in tears
without nothing
being said.

and I thank
God for
that moment
as well.

for the 26 years
in the
making of
that moment,

when I
truly realized
that live
or die

we will never
reach our
end.

there is

is this

flesh wounds
bleeding
across your
soul.
empty spaces

you just
pretending
to love
