The Rain
DuBray Nov 2017
Falling uniquely on the
Ocean
And sand

I try and understand
Life beats of commotion

The poet searches
Continuously
For beauty

While the rain
Creates artistic

A Ray
DuBray Nov 2017
I turned to nature's bed
To rest my graying head

The leaves fell then snow
Covered me head to toe

I awoke and found
Shooting from my ground

Like a branch from a tree
A ray poking out from me

Shadow Wing
DuBray Nov 2017
There in the evenings
I see flying
Through low cloud rings
Shadow Wing

Not to sing
Nor a word
Brings this bird
Shadow Wing

Breaks life's ring
Leaves you unfurled
From the world
Shadow Wing

All passed lives is he
King
Supreme
Shadow Wing!

I'd Like To Be a Tree
DuBray Nov 2017
If there's anything
I'd like to be
Outside of me
It would be a tree

Such grace
The wind whips its face
The tree never complains
Just keeps on swaying

Obeying

When I'm Old and Gray
DuBray Nov 2017
When I'm old and gray
Sitting on my dusty couch
Will I watch TV all day?
Will I be a grouch?

When I'm old and gray
Will I look out the window
To think of passing days
Life's singular-syllable?

To Write Poetry All Night
DuBray Nov 2017
I have no life
So I'll write
Poetry all night

Sun smothered too quick
So I lit a candlestick
To write poetry all night

Burrow in my soul
Coldest warmth I know
To fumble with words to sow

Don't think about love
Nor any angels above
Just write poetry all night

Lonely Lenore was a princess
She blew out my light
Took my wrist and insisted
To write my poetry all night

The flowers in the field
DuBray Nov 2017
The flowers in the field
One day my body will yield
Buried without any shields

The flowers in the field
The stems - we'll be friends
As I grow up into them

The flowers in the field
In the wind we'll sway and feel
As new fingers touch fresh reality

I Am
DuBray Nov 2017
A transparent butterfly
Flitting
Here and there
Eavesdropping everywhere

For I Am
The boundless butterfly
And only I
Know why you are here

Struggling Fire
DuBray Oct 2017
Life is like a fire
Struggling

Like rocks in a river
Resisting

Like trees in the wind
Opposing

Life is like a fire
To attend

To expire
To keep as a friend

Jeanie
DuBray Oct 2017
I talk about my struggles with her Sister
While she bounces lemonade in a jug The old fashion-way
And serves me some in a champagne Glass
She hangs her clothes on department Store racks
With Picasso leaning on a wall
She doesn't have a phone
And neither does her boyfriend
They never met on one
But she uses one to call me on a Friday Night when I'm
Alone

We drive downtown to Wazee's with Two punk rockers
They order a pitcher of beer
And tell us they'll be back in a few - A few is a long concept to them

We pay the tab
And walk up 15th street to Colfax to Grant
Where she decides to see her boyfriend
She says she'll buy a ball so we can Shoot some hoop

Great surfer of solidified

Spins like a hula hoop
With his rollout group
Then pivots on a concrete

Snake surfs on the waves

I Would Like To Be A Tree
DuBray Oct 2017
I would like to be
A tree
Rather than me
Constantly changing

Something
Solid
Like a mountain rock
Something that doesn't talk

Not a river
I don't want to be
Not a wave
But changeless today

I would like to be
A tree
Something solid
Not free

When I'm in my Grave
DuBray Oct 2017
When I'm in my grave
Shut off
Nothing more to say
From my coffin

When I'm in my grave
Poems about me shred
Now I am dead

When I'm in my grave
I won't be able to say
(In my own way)

I love you

Then you know it's autumn
DuBray Sep 2017
When the crow flies
Into the mellow orangy-sky

Then you know it's autumn

When the heart feels a softer
Beat. And sun seeks shelter

Then you know it's autumn

When moon silhouettes
Kids Halloween outfits

Then you know it's autumn

I.
I saw you in the eyes of a child
And I heard in the call of the wild

II.
I saw you in three blue birds
And I heard in the One blessed Word

III.
I saw you in a black robed priest
And I felt you in an innocent Prisoner's release

IV.
I saw you in the highest earthly Tower
And I felt you in a warm tender Flower

Rivulets

Science and poetry
DuBray Sep 2017
I drive
And compose with inward
Eye:
How the sky
Through my windshield
Along with Earth's garment
Trees, air, grass, and field
Seems still, fair
And meant to be

Silent sun and soulful air
While the bus creaks
We sit under its dome
A traveling temporary home
We climb a steep hill
Descend on valley splendor
Until I stop and a passenger
Enters - and doesn't pay the fare

One
I cannot see
The other in front of me

One
Like a flower - before it's grown
The other

One
Beauty, beyond the mind
Yet is with me -

There are two beauties
The one I see -
