Rode the bus
The other night
Under VIOLENT sky
When the tires BLEW
From OVERUSE
SKIDDED and FLIPPED
Started to SLIDE
Glass SHATTERING
Bus on its side
Gravity changed and
I felt myself fly
Everyone thinking
We're ALL GOING to die

But I didn't tense up;
Decided to try to enjoy the ride.

Woke up on the side-
walk, head felt like
cinderblock, and the
air was thick with
thank-Heaven talk

Nobody DIED,
Or ever felt so ALIVE,
And a few days later,
REALIZED
I was the driver

Lightning can strike twice in the same spot

Who would have thought I'd still be

Standing here? Pavement

Speaks to me.

It has

Helped me learn

I've fixed too many bridges

That I should have allowed to burn.

I guess I was out fishing when I saw you today.

I half-hoped half-expected to see you,

And half-had something to say.

I've never been better

And I'm forever

Indebted

But like leaves

         In a breeze we are

                     Destined to drift away.

If I knew
Things would improve
I would build sandcastles

If I knew
You needed me
I'd be a mat at your front door

What is in store for
Me and
You?

I cannot
See through my window

Clear glass made hazy with
Years of shallow breath
Rusted closed? no-
Bolted shut!

If I knew
My light still cast
Neon glow through the pane

If I knew
Mosquito lantern
Was my second name

Then I would catch
All those tiny bloodsuckers

And I would put them in jars
To keep in my pockets
Never to be
Alone again
