Earth Shattering Love
Solomon Slade Jul 2014
Quick is the heart
To deliver such a rush
When all the world around is in such a hush
Death is growing near for one or more
Unless I step in to help even the score
The weapons they have are great
But to save others, I must surrender to fate
I will stand tall and proud and I will always know
The love I feel for my friends only grows
Stronger and stronger the power flows
I will end their suffering with one swift blow
A loud crack and an ache in my chest
The shadows wavered and quietly left
My love is strong and saved all I've known
The world shakes and my body must yield
While I saved others with the my shield
My final fate is now sealed

I'll Have the Usual
Solomon Slade Nov 2015
Life is like a roller coaster, with all of its up and downs
but you’re on fire, the roller coaster is on fire
and everything is on fire because it’s hell studying for four AP classes
trying to get that A plus, one note packet here
and a video presentation there
Oh! and don’t forget the reading
Gotta love that reading
You better make sure you know that Spanish reading too
Plus figuring out the limit of g of x of x cubed plus four x minus seven all over the square root of x to the ninth as x approaches one-half for calculus
As you have that two day test this week on top of the multiple practice essays
Just, you know, a little work

Oh and hey! don’t forget everything you have to do for Hebrew
Learning the Hebrew words you’ll never use
The endless fictional tales about men who may have existed
And creating games that are utterly idiotic
The thing is when you have to teach an entire class of kids
who want to know about a topic you only learned
the night before on Wikipedia
scrambling for any shred of understanding of the topic
as you try to help these kids get through another year of classes
trying to get them all past this
so, you know, a little work

Let’s not forget your greatest passion, soccer
soccer, you know, the sport you were once good at
the sport you poured eleven years of your life into
You were a superstar, were
Now you’re the pitiful player
And you try, you try to practice harder than before
You keep kicking the crap out of the ball
While trying to bring the ball down perfectly with your
head, shoulders, knees and toes, knees and toes,
Sounds easier when you sing it honestly
Gotta pump some iron of course
Mr. Incredible can’t look like he’s on the geek squad
No no no no no no no
You have got to start looking like a runway model soon
Strutting with all of the grace of a ballerina
With all of the might of an MMA fighter
You have to get at least three hours of lifting a day
and you know, whenever there’s extra time
You need brain and brawn to be the best
Push-ups, Pull-ups, Power Cleans, Presses
As you keeping putting on all of this pressure
While you run
round n’ round n’ round n’ round n’
round n’ round n’ round n’ and Around

No, No, I’m fine
You say staring distantly into curious eyes
You can’t tell anyone
Nobody would understand
No one could comprehend the complexity of your life
You know, the endless religious studying, the everlasting essay entries,
the constant concern for the future, your beautiful build body, the hours of lifting,
the things you needed to impart intelligence into the youth,
the never ending hours of practicing your technique,
Your technique for soccer,
as you worry every day you’ll be cut from the team for being impudent,
for being useless
or else you’ll be nothing
not here, not anywhere
But yet every single day you push yourself
You may walk through battle after ****** battle in this life
screaming in agony, crying along the way
But you are not crying from pain
Tears of joy flow as you see the light at the end of the tunnel
With every breath you take
With every decision you make
You crawl a millimeter closer to serenity
That’s one millimeter more than you were yesterday
Now ten millimeters is not a lot
That’s about the size of a scented candle
But ten-thousand millimeters,
Now that is a crap ton of candles
So even though the ride I’m in is engulfed in fire
Finding those small flashes of peace make it bearable
And who knows,
Maybe I’ll make a couple s’mores
at the end of another day
This was a slam poem written for a class.

The Devil in the Details
Solomon Slade Jul 2014
Chaos lives and thrives all around
Hiding in the shadows of our minds
Whispering unspeakable deeds and it feels like we drown
Faster and faster as time speeds along
Chaos sings an unsavory song
Fear and terror spreading to and fro
But no one can hear, no one can know
There is a violent war booming about
But to others it is silenter than a shout
For know no one can, no one can know
Or I will be locked up all alone

Roulette
Solomon Slade Nov 2015
"Man is capable of what he cannot imagine"
To merely state such a statement as true is to be blind to the reality
O, that Man is an an astonishing being!
To put others before oneself is charitable
To provide love to those without
These are the morals that make Man devout
Or... Vicious
Man fancies himself a lion, when he's but a pale yellow serpent
Man is no more than any animal, but only he is able
Shots are fired round after round with a twitch of a tongue
Literacy lining the walls of my tomb to be
The oncoming onslaught of insanity
Bullets phase through the body, but with his eyes, he hammers me
The blood is gushing, rushing out from my arms
He dare not touch me yet he needs not
The golem does as he is told without question
Tongue twitching, itching to be free
Not a scream, not cry, a cry no less!

Sitting in solemn silence, with nothing to gain
Experiencing the pain of Man
Marveling at what he can do
His cruel grin, He knows he does not need to do me in
Now, I hold the gun
The question is am I done?

Fracture
Solomon Slade Dec 2015
Fracture noun the  breaking of an object into pieces
When a glass shatters, it fractures
Even when it is put back together again
It will never be as it was
So when you tell me you're leaving me for another
I fractured
My heart fractured,
my blood froze, my mind stopped, my world held its breath.
Then it came crashing down
Drowning me in memories of those times when I thought I mattered
When I truly believed you loved me
I died in that moment, broken into millions of Shards.
Months flashed by after that,
Holding myself together with some cheap glue,
feeling like collapsing from the thought of you.
But one morning, you came back
my mind almost didn't have time to react
I was excited...but I knew
in that moment, I knew what happened to me.
I was not hastily remade, I was not a hollow shell
Left to suffer in hell:
I was rebuilt
I knew better than before
So when you crawl back to me,
Telling me you need me at your side
I know you need me
The thing is... I don't need you

That
Solomon Slade Jan 2016
That
That incoherent chatter mucking up the air
What encompasses it? They wonder
It is both fatally loud and excruciating silent
Every note weaving a magnificent tale
of heroism, romanticism,
of hollowness and loneliness.
They traverse the house searching both high and low
Paving "creation" wherever they go
Nearing the sounds of hope and woe,
They scheme as to what to do
"Death" one screams
"Maul it" another shrieks
"Torture it" spoke one with a wicked gleam
Opening a door to reveal the source
There a boy or rather a demon,
Perhaps something worse
With a shrill cry of war, outrage, and disgust
****** ensues shrieking it must
Pwch! A searing blast consumes all.
"It should have died with pain"
is all they said
But when the light dies, they lie dead instead
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry" the boy mopes
For without death, he has no hopes
For those who know what it means to sacrifice oneself for others

— The End —
