I was there,
in your shoes
walking over dirt
and picking out our favorite tree

life is hard but most days are worth living
today was not one of those days
tomorrow won’t be either

we held sturdy rope in our hands
the kind that’s permanent
the kind of knot that holds

sometimes you gotta admit defeat
some things will never be done
some days it’s just better to quit

friends and family will be upset,
but aren’t you supposed to live for yourself
shouldn’t dying be the same way?

we climbed our favorite tree
looked out over nature’s beauty
breathed clean smokeless air

you jumped
I stayed.

They say before you judge a man
you must walk a mile in his shoes
I was only there when you fell.

Moments of peace
And moments of pain.
Moments where you find yourself alone in the rain.
Little moment after second after minute and hour,
When you try to count them up they always turn sour.

I am myself
So long as I'm awake the smile stays on my face

But when the blackness of sleep overcomes me

The pain and turmoil I feel pours out

My heart rips into smaller pieces by the hour

Soon too small to be repaired

Subconscious speaks while asleep
The tears streaming down my cheeks its screams

if we must die,
let it be known that
you're only as great as yesterday lets you.
that the leader of men carries the hope of all men.
that the world is never the final destination of life.
that man is only a photograph of heaven.

if we must die.
let it be known that eternity lives in every face.
that the mind is all but a femur of the unspoken soul.
that you are only a footstep ---
and every footstep must wash so to leave room for other footsteps.

since we must all die,
let it be known that you once stood--

let that be known.

Light is more important than the lantern,
The poem more important than the notebook,
And the kiss more important than the lips.
My letters to you
Are greater and more important than both of us.
The are the only documents
Where people will discover
Your beauty
And my madness.
