Every time I felt pity
I told myself no.
Thought of how I'd be hurt
And my heart turned to stone.
When I started to love
I built up a wall
Then broke it down into ruins
I looked worth nothing at all.

Like every place with a past
People stop to look for a while.
Mesmerized by what once was
Then pass on with no smile.
But deep in my heart
Those who brave the ruins to see.
There's a vulnerable child
With a heart breaking plea.

She's blocking out happiness
Ashamed when she feel's okay
As though she deserves only sadness
And she must stay this way
She refuses to accept
Any help or attention
She gives half hearted nods
Saying she will do as they mentioned.

But she never does
And she doesn't know why.
She ignores it all
Then claims that she tried.
And it breaks her to see
Those she breaks with her silenec
So she pushes them away
Like people do with painful moments.

The child is weak
she needs someone to hold her
But she doesn't trust strangers
Just as her mother told her
But her mother didn't know
Shed turn out this way
And she still doesn't know
to this very day

Shes focused on who left
not the ones who are staying
so while slowly she's been growing
she thinks she's decaying
with the help of others
she can rebuild these ruins
with windows and doors this time
so the light can get through it
