Apathetic Abyss
Scott Mitchell Dec 2012
Discernment of facts escape a blind eye
Incalculable deceit fell upon naive assumptions of decorum

Virtues so easily replaced by a blanket of colorful chattel
Now, countless blankets dance about, as ghosts
on a paved route chosen with intent of endless future passage
And now, to escape the realm of falsities
every eventide is exchanged for repose and closed eyes

Pleasure, promises, and poetry she gave
only to have something to take away
In vengeance of a caustic past
Aphrodite unleashed artful malevolence into a fallen heart

Oh, how so much exists
where there is nothing
Emptiness can be full of such desire
And oh, the bitter taste of sweet words
from the unrestrained lips of a liar

An offering cloaked with savory fruit in cordial hands
Swearing to give it all in the big apple
and then seducing to her roots in the yard
Absorbing a soul
Only to create a martyr of forlorn cause

An abomination can appear so sweet
when emptiness needs filling
A demon from below,
delightful,
before killing

Nostalgia, a trail of footsteps in the mud
Like a fingerprint with an unquestionable owner
Arduous wails reaching the extents of one's universe
as a pawn and patriarch share reflection in the stagnant tide

knowledge of good and evil, once a desire, now a curse
yet, finally held
Gratefully numb with inescapable acceptance

Devout Notes
Scott Mitchell Oct 2012
I’m always hearing music
so I must be listening too close
Seeking answers in the lyrics
Adhering to every word spoke

It’s said that insanity is surely defined
Doing the same thing over and over again
I always find myself wanting to go back
and again, I find the means to an end

If I tried to run away
there would be a repeated proof
The asylum is ineludible
and I’m clearly crazy for you

Trying every method to remove
what the conductor put in me
Binding strings of a puppet master
inspired to play this symphony

The end of days may not come soon
but someday, in that palace of the sky
I’ll look in the directory
for the one with celestial eyes

I’ll ask for only five minutes
I’ll try to explain in the short time
All I was never able to find words for
in the world of yours and mine

Love for only giving, could have been
but, was too often unforgiving
Broken hearts simply tried to survive
but, life without you was not living

There was no peace where there was pride
and I’m not looking for alibies
But always found myself asking why
even apart, your happiness was mine

We promised it’s unconditional
but didn’t survive dark times
Silence as our backs turned
to conceal the cries

Two things I’m sure I surely knew for sure
as I waited for a shooting star in the sky
What I gave to you is always yours
Till the end of time, this love abides

Inescapable Destiny
Scott Mitchell Oct 2012
A nomadic voyage, a heart's quest
Quiet and alone were an attractive option
But your music makes me dance
Your beauty induced a trance
What do I have to offer, but this heart
I could swim the sea to you
I can drown
or take this love to my last breath

The warmth while holding you, oh....
creates an infinite confirmation
My moist eyes looking into yours are not sad,
no...
I'm jubilant and thankful
You held resilient to your promise
and gave all that you are
I was lost and you restored me

My caramel coated aspirations live
in memories
Dark brown eyes and a body of firm silk
my hands and soul are deprived of you
My heart's demise begins one minute apart
A day or more is torture lancing outward
through my flesh
Inspirations defeat all lucidity
I need you

Every future thought, you are there
Your motivated smile is a victory for me
and I can smile
My endless home is now wherever you are

As my eyes settle
upon my one
luminous flower
The light of its flame
burns, as my only desire

What you see as faults
or a rip in your petals
Simply bring to my lips
and make it sweet
like honey and wine

My soul's pollen
as I forget every other
like star dust
I absorb your colors
and trickles from your eyes

If you used to kneel, pleading
with heaven too many times
Look into my eyes
as I kiss
the scars on your knees

If you still remember rain
open yourself for me
My soul will kiss yours
as our passions release
one by one, every pain

Stagnant Tide (First Sonnet)
Scott Mitchell Oct 2012
Throwing bottles to the sea with last hopes
replies from the queen were to no avail
In each, contained a small piece of his heart
each one was destined to where he once sailed
Spent himself, he did, on rejecting ears
her angel eyes he dreamed of, turned away
Accepting the fate of all of his fears
moments shared with others did not ease pain
In dark days he accepted his demise
seduced to follow a new warrior’s quest
Still, echoes of memories pierced his eyes
yearning for one more chance to give his best

Outside the queen’s window, a proof of sort
undying love in bottles filled her port

Entre los pétalos
Scott Mitchell Dec 2012
Disculpa mi mirada
Pequeña flor de bronce
La curiosidad embriaga
Por como te mostrarás
Floreciente
Y el brillo del rocío matinal

Le ruego al sol
Aparece ahora y revela
El objeto de mi deseo

Siente mi aliento, pequeña flor
Como unos labios suavemente exploran
Y remplazan mis pasiones
Con tu dulce aroma

Mi ambición es mejorar
Y mantener la esmeralda con cuidados
No temas al abrazo
Y saborea el néctar que compartes

Douce Agonie
Scott Mitchell Jan 2013
Adhering to social norm, and
obligated duty at the ball
I ask Her Majesty for a dance
and she gracefully extends a hand
Then we step, spin, and sway
as eyes behold in awe

But, who am I in late e'en
to command the silence of a queen
She lay motionless in the cuverie
as I savor the côtes
rousing deep breath and sigh

And I, not befittingly
command a vineyard of floral unfold
The sun riseth not, but heat is known
as lord of land tends each blossom
and shall forsake none

Who am I to drink as a noble
and taketh of fruit so divine
Thy hands remove the canopy
which adorned all I aspire
Seized and raised to mouth
Engaging in gluttonous frolic
as the queen declares 'halt not!'

I shalt not forbid thee
a request for royal execution
Assign thy sacrifice as mine
descending on my dagger
Exhaustive love for loss of life
conquers and consumes thine eyes

Mine end too, be not untimely
as harvest comes to pass
And I, decant into your grasp
Rims of the barriques break
and a peasant dons a crown

Pending Cue

Put your hand on your heart, feel
and close your eyes
Would something change
when your eyes open
if I'm one step closer?

Listen with one ear, absorb
crashing waves on the shore
What sound prevails
if my deep voice
softly spoke in the other?

Feel the cooling breeze, enhance
the touch of my warm hands
What would be the answer
if my eyes are demanding
I need you tonight

I know you are out there, somewhere
perhaps silent as you sit and wonder
Asking where tomorrow will take you
Hoping for the love to save
and from the routine, an escape

I'll come faster than lightning strikes
and we won't think about tomorrow
You'll be the only star of my sky
forevermore
if you only send me a sign

Poet's Beckon
Scott Mitchell Feb 2013
I should have never left
we are like one mind in poetry
I need to fly back and write some
as I'm needing all you are for me

I've fallen deeper from the distance
from my soul's muse and my sole sanity
Lips will softly graze your neck and speak
proverbs inspired by the black ink

Nothing is more perfectly exotic
than your eyes in the low light, and
no music beckons my soul like
your voice telling me to hit that

You wanna swim first, just imagine
we'll make climactic castles on the beach
Quenched by aftermath of our rain dance
as you chant and wrap yourself around me

Lovers and forever soul mates
eyes connected as our souls mate
We need times like this together more
inside of my forever fate

Never looking at the past
but tell me as you're looking back
To push the slow motion rewind
so we can play it all again

My mind fast forwards to the future
every day wanting more of you
In every stanza you will know for sure
a million stances say I need you

Subtle Quiescence
Scott Mitchell Jul 2014
Any instance my eyes turn away from you
don't conceive I've lost my affection
I'm solely focused on things to come
as we stare in the same direction

Anytime I don't say how my love is
don't allow your heartbeat to skip
Some things are too grand to reveal
as profound words escape my lips

Nothing voices louder than our silence
vacant phrases, yet souls defined
Nothing could inspire my heart to quake more
than your eyes looking up into mine

Every time we're burdened with distance
I embrace my pain of your presence missing
Affirmation I've finally found the one
no reluctance for our hearts giving

I want every tomorrow holding you
don't ask what tomorrow may hold
We can grey and our bodies wither
but "we" forever will never get old
