Overrated Soulmate
Savannah Varney Apr 2012
Like a boat upon the sea
Or a train upon its tracks
You're the only path I see
And I know you won't take me back

Its not enough that I love you
Its not enough that I can't breathe
But without you I'm just
A leaf caught in the breeze

No destination
No place in sight
Just coasting along
Hoping you'll see my side

See, I was lonely and confused
Not sure what I was supposed to do
My heart was beaten and bruised
But I guess there is no excuse

I can't go a day without crying
Or a week without pain
As long as you're what I want
I can't quit you like you're *******

Its over now, its done with
I've moved on, I'm on my way
Life holds so much more for me
So forget you, I'm not gonna stay

I've changed, I'm a free woman
Got my hat on straight
On the road to recovery
I don't need an overrated soulmate

From deep under the surface
Something stirs
The people of this city
Experienced a tragedy
A horror so traumatizing
The city walls and store blocks
Are scarred, both inside and out

Bullet holes and burnt buildings
Cemeteries filled with graves
Tombs of those who died
When the wrath rushed through

But still it lives on,
The city filled with natives and tourists alike
People sell, people buy
People remember but still people die

It is now a historic monument
But slowly the city repairs
Revealing only a faint scab
Fixed by reality

People say they will always remember
But how long 'til the scab is gone?
Lost, inside the flesh
Written after I returned from a trip there in 2007. (8th grade)

Psychedelic raindrops
Dripping lights
So bright, so bright
Like mushroom painted rainbows
Glowing
As angels in the night

While ravers eat their kandi
I journey
Aimlessly through the sky

Making friends with whispy planets
Soaring on my hocuspocus carpets

Don't ******* down
I wanna stay high, melting face forever
Drinking passion from a flask
Enjoying my nonsensical endeavor

No Regrets

As the clock ticks and the earth turns
The orbits shift and the fire burns
Peter Pan, Neverland, the Lost Boys
Baby, those ain't nothin' but clever decoys
To lead you astray, lead you away
Convince you that maybe you'll be happy someday
If time could tell the outcome ahead
Perhaps you'd choose a different path instead
But you can't peer forward, can't rewind
No turning back or looking behind
So be content with the present
Don't dwell on the past
And maybe, just maybe
Life won't turn out so bad

Stop saying goodbye
Come with me to the sky
Up high we will float
By train, plane or boat

The stars whisper, "Oh hello"
While clouds form below
As our hands intertwine
All the planets combine

In a peaceful harmony
And a tranquil melody
Love can't worry you, my dear
It's in front of you so clear

When I look in your eyes
I see sun, stars and sky
So come into my embrace
We'll fly up into space

The days will get better
As long as you and I
Are together

I know you hide your thoughts
Behind smiles and comforting lies
You stare up at the ceiling
Your soul transparent through misty eyes

I can see your heavy burdens
Chaos swirling inside your mind
The air is cold with unspoken distance
Why can't you see I'm by your side?

It's clear that you have issues
Tormented by hidden demons
But you could self-medicate
By establishing human connections

Use me! Use me as your mood-stabilizer
To substitute underlying manic conditions
My kiss, to turn pain into pleasure
My body, your security blanket

In the depths of misperception
You try to convince me you're "okay"
Well baby, the things I would do
If only that were true

But through your bouts of crazy
I'll still be here
For you

When all is said and done
I'd do anything for you

I might be distant, cold sometimes
But believe me, it's because
Your power over me bleeds me dry

That carnal, eager smile
Your antsy fingertips
Dancing along my skin
A quick breath causes parted lips

Ah, it's time to go
Someone will see us here
Another time, we'll meet
'Til then I'll miss you dear

Brown flakes chipped from the mantles, fall
Outside chaos sweeps, shattered bird calls
Paths and trails invade, disrupting the norm
Arbor day stuck mid-waist, smothered once more
There's catastrophe in the canopy
Silence of defeat deafens the forestry
Help me, help you, I tip my ranger hat
Lets emancipate the earth from man's wicked combat
The world's confused, so liberate and understand
Clear your mind from this innate, tradition of can't
Ignore heavy mists blinding your eyes
Demand a deep breath, stand for your rights
The damage must come to an end
The world's in your hands
Unite nature, beast and man
Together as friends

There is No Meaning to Life.
Savannah Varney Mar 2013
The girl with the eyes
That crinkle at the sides
That shows she hasn't lost faith in the world just yet.

Don't look at me
I'm not talking about me!
I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly.

And what it boils down to
Is that we're all just ghosts
With our own missed connections
And transparent ambitions.

But that girl with the eyes
That crinkle at the sides
She's got an oyster in a shell,
Waiting for her pearl hotel

Holding on to the idea
That she has a role to fill
But the time will pass
And she'll see that
She's just another ghost with a past.

And when the world has no more girls with the eyes
That crinkle at the sides
I'm convinced we'll all vaporize

And the air will fill with our dusty dreams

And settle to the ground in a thick, ***** film

Then, like a pillow torn at the seams

The cycle will begin again

Starting with white, fluffy hope,
Next comes the question,
Then hits the reality,
And last is the dark, dark feeling that you were wrong all along.

Because, face it...
There is no meaning to life.

Save your anger for another time
Do me like I'm a ***** crime

Use that aggression between the sheets
You know those moves make me weak

If you think
I can't handle it rough
Silly boy
I invented tough

Bedroom, pool table, take your pick
It's time to whip out your cue stick

Whisper
It's what the tall trees do
Whisper
It's what I beg of you
Feel the breeze
Sway the trees
Experience the movement
Or crash into the pavement
Don't wait for an answer
Be swifter than a panther
Time is of the essence
Skip into the distance
Leap into the unknown
Effort's always best full-blown
Don't let regret in
Just stop your fretting
Capture the light
Deep in the night
Sink in the sand
Be part of the band
And the last rule of tonight is
Always be united
With nature and your creator
Feel the breeze
Sway the trees
Experience the movement
Or crash into the pavement

Tears melt my face as sadness overcomes grace
You see, the night it swallows any light
Happiness is as distant as a dream
Part memory, part fantasy

Insomnia runs through my veins like ice
Keeps me conscious, skitters like mice
But I can't continue this lifeless plight
Changes must be made, I'll be all right

Read the soul, develop the mind
Understand, or risk going blind
Don't take my word for it, hop on board
The meditation train, harmony's restored

Amare
Savannah Varney Apr 2012
One day, the sun lights up the sky
Warm air blows grass from side to side
The next, the clouds are black
Rain brewing between thunderclaps

On that warm day your face shines bright
Conflict run from you without a fight
But when those clouds come storming through
I must learn quick how best to deal with you

Do I give you space or ignore what's wrong?
How do I ensure that today we'll get along?
Questions, questions on my mind
Yet without them I'm just living life blind

For you, I'd rather face every challenge around
Than have lived without your voice a familiar sound
These aren't just words to make a rhyme
This is how I feel daily, all the time

I plan to keep you forever in my life
No drifting, no quiting, at least on my side
Please, please why can't you see
You're one of a kind, I need you close to me

You're not like other friends
No, not even close
You're hot-headed, yet thoughtful
And to me you mean the most

So take my words, my thoughts, my soul
Keep me in your heart wherever I may go
Yes, the weather will change from day to day
Sun in the sky or black rivers that flow

But no matter how dark, no matter how bright
I'll be there through it all, I'll keep you in my life
My love is yours, you never need to say sorry
Because forever and always, you'll be my

Count on me to be here for you
And when you feel you've got nothing left
