Virginia walks where I cannot
The angels know her name
Where my name was is now a blot
My muse hands me the blame

I whisper love, she does not hear
She knows my heart tells lies
She listens with a cautious ear
And sees through my disguise

I try but cannot feel her pain
A mistress she shall stay
I try my best but can't explain
The demons I must slay

She hides my sin to no avail
The truth cuts like a knife
She knows that she will only fail
Name only, she's my wife

A mistress she will always be
I know it seems absurd
She'll ever be in love with me
But my love is the word

I've written of heartaches and other sad things
Of broken hearts and the pain that it brings
I've written of death and of those that grieve
Of women abused but too scared to leave

I've written of sorrow and people who cry
Of those who are cheaters and of those who lie
I've written of tears that can fill the sea
Of people that's lost their serenity

I've written of children that's lost their way
Of husbands and wives too jaded to stay
I've written of depression that people feel
Of those giving up for they've lost their will

I've written of love that didn't last
Of people who live their lives in the past
I've written of poets who spill their soul
Of many things that we can't control

I've written of dying and of suicide
Of those who lose, even though they've tried
And though I've written of all this stuff
There's much more to say, I've not written enough

Sparrows bleed as trumpets scream
They fall to kiss the earth
Crimson proof it's not a dream
For death has given birth

Darkness smiles with broken wings
A feathered wake of sorts
When death is born no one sings
For joy somehow distorts

Devils dance and act a fool
Just barely out of sight
Shadows watch and start to drool
While laughing at the light

Empty tears, for no one cares
It happens every day
Far away an angel stares
There's nothing left to say

Twisted fate, we don't ask why
For death will come to all
When death is born, we must die
As sparrows start to fall

I'm haunted by your memory
A ghost of things long passed
Trapped inside my hollow dreams
A love that didn't last

A spirit that taunts my very being
It will not set me free
Bound by the chains of my regrets
Its echo haunting me

I carry around this broken heart
My reward for misplaced trust
I chose to walk the path of love
But you, the path of lust

The spectre of your lying eyes
Follow where ever I go
Broken promises upon your lips
Piercing my very soul

Still haunted by your memory
No peace for me to find
Tormented by what could have been
This ghost you left behind
