Good morning, dear. The sky is crying
Splattering wetly outside my window
Such great sadness that yet brings life
Run outside to embrace it
Oh, to know for what our Mother
Weeps with such intensity
Surely we have tapped a great vein of sorrow
And She bleeds down now upon us
Is it not a foul ritual?
How we consume Her sustenance each day
Regulating ourselves
While neglecting Her grief?
I will be a vessel
Harboring as much of Her anguish as I dare
Lessening the ordeal ahead
Great clouds of thought, each a separate world
Swirl above my insignificance
While others leave, I remain
They do not understand, cannot sympathize
With You
I try to.
At times your emotion overwhelms me
But I stand strong, buckle within
Who should care so long as the illusion is in place?
We cry together.
Good morning, dear.

It's never too early to realize
what you have and treasure it

And never too late to marvel
at your surroundings or
company

Hello. How are you?
Good? Thanks.
It's raining, like the clouds that move inside my head
ARE YOU CRAZY?
Pitter patter rain drop plops on my brain
Yes.
What would you do if I was to explode?
Right now?
Yes.
I would blow up with you. We are one and the same.
Bull.
No bull.
Why should I believe you?
I can make you do THIS!
AH! Stop it!
Believe me now?
Sure.
Can I ask you a question?
Alright.
Why are you so down on yourself?
Good question.
Bad answer.
Fair enough. I don't know.
Got issues?
Everyone does.
Sad.
Agreed.

In search of a discovery
Worthy of my time
While so many
Twisting shadows stalk me
Feeding on my determination

A blue sky crackles with lightning
Instantly gray.

I hide behind my walls of sound
My fearless protectors
And dare not venture out

into the storm

But the only word that plagues my mind is
"explode"

What is my aim?

A fantastic query to which I have many answers
I aim to explore the most beautiful and most mundane places on our planet
And keep secrets when they should be kept
And fly to great heights and sink to great depths and
Traverse lengthy tripwires that stretch between skyscrapers in the Mojave Desert

But tonight my aim is to be with you
And be with you
And be (where was it again?)

Ah, yes. With you.

Have you
twisted yourself up to see if you can
Have you
passed the night awake by fire
Have you
come to realize the significance of significance
Have you
come to recognize your realization as flawed
Will you

I wish I could be aware of my previous and future selves
How much there would be to learn
Let me lay down
Let me sleep
Tell me I'm not too far gone
For my heart to be alone

greedy feet

Luminescent roads against a

A wonderful clash
A welcome crash

Of thunder's warning
Of lightning's fire

I watch as you take a
       flying leap into the water
sinking down three, six, twelve feet
             eyes closed, crinkles of concentration

                           Strength

Who is the awake? of
cold rainy fingers dripping top
hat to foot

wave wave to the shadow tied to this wall as if
it wouldn't recognize you as if it
wasn't obligated to return the favor, as if it had
a choice

and who is the laughter? disembodied and
floating through hallways, indistinguishable
anonymity rising and flailing again as if light
makes all the difference

don't we know it?

I found myself wanting to get you a necklace
  you know
to replace that one with the silver heart you wore before
      the chains got all tangled

I even picked it out, a light blue teardrop of glass to
match mine

no symbolism gets by you, and I wanted to get for you a
tangible reminder that sadness is always there but

safely contained in a beautiful teardrop from
me to you if that makes any sense whatsoever
to lift up the latches and feel our breeze come
through the glass

there is a sense of fragility in tangible things
a sense that cautions me from investing any power in one

if only there were a way
I hope you never forget

That little heart shaped from green?
                         as I am.
love formed with time and care, growing
stronger and more vibrant every second,

               immortalized
                    there with you.

Bravery is not a small feat.

To stand tall and announce to the world your hidden
          it takes formidable inner strength.
The very idea of taking it to the open
          haunts and frightens you.

To what end?

If we succumb to the temptations of silence
Jump toward the Siren song
          we are finished.

Why are we here if not for chance?
for chances are, chances are everything.
Why do we persist if not for triumph?
risks are the surest paths to reward.

If then, chance and change are gates to paradise, why
Do we shy away?

fear.

Unjustified, unnecessary, indescribable
          fear.

Demolish it, and in the ashes of what was once a god-forsaken
          wasteland
You will discover

          hope.

                                           sleep away, but

Sullen sprinkles rage across the
Little one's mind, coupled and
Doubled among fleeting glimpses
Of responsibility at times

But the train can never un-chug
Itself back on its tracks
And the life worth living is one
Of great achievement and
Humility at the top, always
A sense of the relative
Importance of the word

And careful attention to the
Few facts that present themselves
As offerings before an altar
But are taken as welcome
Friends, worn and tires, who seek only
A fire and a meal to purge the chill from
Their bones, but of course they
Know (perhaps not)
The sun always does
A better job
Samuel Aug 2010
The fingers of my soul reach out to you
Across this distance
Searching, hoping for
Something beside the point.

To be quite honest
To throw it out there
Twitching
In the streets
To be squashed beneath
Thoughts deemed more important
In this instance
In this moment
To bare the heart of the feeling
Anticipating a knife
To slide into this innocence and
Stop its nonsensical beating
To sum it all up,

I miss you.

I found a bottle in the attic
Beneath a film of dust it read
"Liquid Dreams" and "Do not consume if
you have a history of broken hearts"

A gray-green light shone
Through the tired glass

I popped the cork and drank deep of others' desires
And here I am

Is there any reason why it
should feel so wholesome like
a warm kitchen smell ten

meaning as the words
blinked from your mouth
while eyes seek eyes?

It's always good to be a rock
Incapable of being influenced by anything you might
Encounter and shy away from only to explore later on
From all the sicknesses and worries that plague so many
Minds at present

It's so quiet out here
Pitter patter of snow drops
On my eyelashes

This cold is different
Purging my qualms with
Stillness.

If it were heat I might fall
Sapped of my strength
Overwhelmed by warmth

But as is
I embrace the chill
Ease back
And for a sweet, long moment
I am lost
Among the white
On the roof.

Stalemate.
No one can move
All other pieces are gone
Just the two kinds
Endlessly circling the board
Afraid to get close
So it is impossible

And the black flies
Laugh from overhead
Assured of a feast
In good time

As their strength dwindles
And the two kings sway
Their patterns through the squares
Toppling to span several

Even in death
At least one square between
These two
As the commentators
Swoop in to
Claim their prize
Samuel Oct 2012
Plans have gone and changed, I'm
off and away regardless, couldn't
care more about this vagabond desire, I'll
burn the laughter down and run right out
of town, not stopping ahead for a yellow like
an eight-sided rule anymore, you've lifted
the unknowing latch and I'm out, I'm
out out
out.

We are crazed. Compassionately stupid in
Everything there is to be considered known

Let us gather then in the summer heat
On the blacktops above our fathers and grandsons
And run until we breathe blood, until we taste death on our lips
Then let us hold hands and take another step

The world is a cruel predator
Preying on the innocent.

The problem with our planet
(at least what we currently face)
is one of ceaseless travel,
indifference to space

Do trees protest their rootings?
Do ants fall out of line?
Yet our minds tend to wander, it
happens all the time

If only we could focus, but
our energies disperse
how easily we trail off into
arguably worse

It's not globalization
or the fault of the night news
it's all the me's forgetting
the importance of the you's

Strike up a conversation, and
acknowledge what's around
how else will your new neighbor
learn to bake that lovely pound

cake?
I couldn't resist.

We need to talk
over a campfire

need to love under

to warm beside the glow
of shared dreams

burn on,
unscathed
That thought! Inside your head.

I am self-sufficient

an island with drawbridges leading
every which way, blue
water instead of fences, green stickers
in place of war, red statements turned bold
statements proclaiming one thing or
another lit perspective on the
streets

and the funny thing is
with no sky, no atmosphere
to brand by our savage mark, corrupt and burn
full of the gray the undecided man drags with
himself

it's so hard to breathe
and each day is a marathon
in the blazing sun

where such a chilled glass of
water speaks volumes and
dives leagues beneath the
icy surface of the human
condition
open mind, open write.

Exploration, soul through a straw
Thought they had told you
Oh, did you now?

Shouts from nostrils, echo
From synapse to eyelash
Universal reverb, total
Drunkenness, did we
Say chocolate? Should
Be *****, bleach, anything
That burns for an instant and
Brings relief through the fogs
Of god-knows-what-else and

Is she coming in here to see
Me like this? Oh,
Please no. Once is enough
And even that time left a nasty
Band of scar tissue mocking out a
Word, I fear for my mind in
Spite of everything. It fails to
Consider my heart and plods on
To the grave, as determined as
When it first twisted
This is an old one. Forgot about it and just found it.
