Alongside Disaster
Samuel Aug 2011
Candy love
          neon colors bubbling up through
     pink cellophane quilts

                  Voices that
                                 despite all logic
pledge allegiance to the sincerity beside
                                                            romance

You say it's hard to run on nothing

Conscious nonsense
Don't you see I'm trying to

I loved every thing, every inch

I ventured out
          into the wet blackness
                of our forest at night
armed with the best light money can buy
        and fire
                                  and memories
but even the best protection can turn against you

Walk
Samuel Jul 2011
One way
Stood at the top of a knoll
                A new low
No waiting looks welcome
                               One ultimate perspective

      A thousand open faces
                                                     Enjoy the passage of time
You had me at
                        Today matters, darlin'
You had me at

Your world in

Just for fun
                         Make it worth remembering
Just for fun
                         Love heals (hazy yellow dreams)

      These hand-forged items
                                               Absolutely ridiculous
Became beautiful earth
                           that happily shapes us

       Though our feet may leave
                                             Have faith in the future

I was right. All composed of circles, but
Not a bad thing
Relations make life worth living and
Knowledge of them dispels any notion that
It is not

So deeply intertwined the little glimpses
Matter, carry
Explosive realizations in their handbags

It is hot, we are more than
Excited molecules and yet not
Really, excitement is relative
And we enjoy being excited

Heat transforms into a manifestation of
Interrelation awareness

Our world is largely cold and digital

Samuel Jul 2011
How can I bring you to understand
The fragility of these words, that
It can all disappear in an instant
Dissolve into particles so small they
Refuse to be named

How can I convey the sense of urgency
That all moments stand as marble
In a hall of memory, waiting
For the last few empty shelves to be filled

When I tell you I miss you
When I tell you I'll miss you
I mean it

About it, you made the right choice it
All worked out in the end there were

Earned, not received

And they never pop, never dull

Stolen Flower
Samuel Jul 2011
Continuation without meaning, meaning
Lacking merit, chains whose warders have
Long since deserted
Fallen prey to common gestures

There is no editorial for these thoughts
Of sound mind and sight body we
Press on

Some say it is the chlorophyll that keeps leaves
Green
I know it to be hope
I know, should hope grow tires and fail
To recognize her surroundings, leaves
Will drain to brown with
Worry

I challenge you, try to understand
Walk in the depressions left by the others
Feel their breath fueling your thoughts but
Keep them your own, always and
Forever your own, even as
Forever deflates and sags inward, a
Shadow of its former self

Reason, everything's about reason but to what
Ends, for what purpose and why?
A reason
Will not bring people together
A reason
Cannot solve a problem
A reason, a stupid ******* reason
Can't do much of anything at all

What is it for? What
Do we seek to justify somehow with this
Talk of talking we need
Three-dimensional speaking we need
Spheres of understanding not this
Circle we ride in silence without so much as a
Remark about the unchanging landscape

Fallacies will be present in all walks of life, hell
In every stone witnessed in all walks of life,
Hell,
Everywhere
And to dwell on them is to play the fool to
Succumb to defeat to rise above all we
Know and realize there is nothing else but
Cascading color waterfalls and this nub of
a pencil

Nothing crucial, no time for time when
It all is so vibrant, yet reflections adore
Our world because we invite them even
As we recognize the harm done, still welcome
Views built on the backs of the long dead and

Idealistic initial impressions of a
Flower before the wind steals it from the
Tangles of your hair and gifts pedals to
The breeze

Broken Mornings
Samuel Jul 2011
Oh here is my map
What does it look like today
Oh
Here among the kudzu walls, enthralled
With life and all its possibilities
How frozen the landscape, how
Bountiful the harvest of
Minds filled by ideas, concepts
Burning like the wasp stings around my ankles

Far from the place I will be far from
Soon, but now
Oh here I invest, to
Hear what there is to listen to and
Speak of things unseen, walking
The shadowy path beneath trees and
Taunted by the sun, as

Forever is a world of a word that should
Never leave its cage
                                  [remember the last]
Second before the grasses grew tall and the
Roof sodden with rust, a perfect sandwich
Rotting on your dusty counter to await your
Oh here
of disgust whenever it is you
Plan on returning

Oh here you are beside it
Chomping away at nothing beneath the
Beautiful fountain where
Time means next to nothing and nothing
Lives for time and whatever is thought exists
Not as a conjecture solely but in tangible or
Perhaps an intangible form of peace, a quiet

Hillside on which all good things grow
Inside or out, and no punctuation to
Restrain these words, no sire and
Yes ma'am I do believe we've come to the
End of our tour now, so

Be sure to take your impact with you and
Have a lovely rest of your night while we
Break the morning

Some days you wake up and don't want to do anything

Land of the Crayons
Samuel Jul 2011
Drift off to sleep among
Hordes of orange sheep in the fields
Behind the Walgreens
Not the one you know but the one off that
Long road to nowhere we went on once while looking for
A place so desperately different from the one we found

Where you can crumple up a newspaper and throw
It up into the clouds, waiting for hours without even a
Whisper from its knowing pages

Beside the factory and
Inside they make little boys and girls into great
Law-makers and road builders who have lost their ways and
Dreams and wishes somewhere inside the world's collective furnace and
May never return to the

Pages rustle past as I close my eyes
And begin

The history of those
Who cannot choose their own histories for
Fear of messing some crucial element up or
Adding too much salt to the batter on account of being
Far too distracted by that bird chirp chirping on the turquoise window sill

Jump on top, pillow, cartoon kerpow
A fort of us
Untouchable, impervious
Like every horror movie extra, only

To keep an open mind and recall times
Spent  below the technicolor roof we built one afternoon
And chasing the one member of your family that
Runs away for a romp each time I open your door

Yes, into the dreams we rapidly hunker down in
Anticipation of a bombshell

Future thoughts
Samuel Jul 2011
Ten years from now we will have since decided what we would like to devote our time to
Likely with plans of families and children, of the stability and serenity that comes with love
What will our memories of this time remain as? Will each moment be as vibrant?
Will we remember each other as we see ourselves now?

Time changes everything.
But perhaps we can change time.
