Shall I compare thee to a winter's night?
Torrential winds that frost over my heart,
Are but a fragment of the biting pain you bring;
Glimmering dreams dust somber skies,
More brilliant than ever, yet greatly out of reach;
Life slumbers upon your coming, and yet I,
I feed well and embrace the chill, hopeful,
Though knowing the dangers all too well;
Despite the might of your apathetic tempest,
Love shall tread into the blizzard moon after moon,
Firm and enduring, warm and strong,
Yet too fragile to weather the thoughtless spite;
Seasons shall change and life shall adjust,
And I find myself either unable or unwilling.
(This isn't really a sonnet. Don't mind the title.)

Some to love
others to hate
Your mind releases them like doves
ivory wings glowing in the sun
why aren't they held by this weight?

They blindly kiss the sky
as blindly as I kissed you
only to come crashing down
Chambered...
in this hell called a mind

Or do they flow like a waterfall?
Showers shimmering in the sun
to hide the unwanted truth
behind this curtain of fallacy

They'll wash over the rocks
as you washed over me
only to go splashing forth
into a pool at the bottom
with a hindered flow

As much as I love them
As much as I hate them
I must lock them away
into the void you left in my heart

I'm finally starting over
Looking back gets me nowhere
I'm finally breaking free
Lock the door and throw the key

Pushing off with all my might
once again, shall I take flight
With no chains to keep me bound
I lose sight of this ominous ground

Perfectly airborne, and what do I see?
A beautiful dove in flight with me
We admire each other on our mutual quest
The peak of the sky is our silent test

We reach the clouds and push further yet
spinning and climbing as a harmonious duet
Among the stars we both ascend
and together we learn the sky has no end

Drifting aimlessly, hand in hand
we are free from the grasp of the oppressive land
With feelings in my heart I'm not sure how to convey
I turn to the beautiful dove and say:

*I left all I had, not sure what to pursue
until I realized, I was just looking for you

I just left your house and
counted the glowing, dotted lines
that passed by all too eagerly

The fluorescent paint
reflects the lights back to me
like the letter I passed to you
which you so hastily returned

A chipped away memory and
a winter kiss only dreamt of
finalize this draft of our
suspenseful novella

But I hear you have many of
these unfinished stories
pushed aside while you reread
the same old text
hoping that you can add to
the blank pages in the back

And while you study
those worn, yellow pages
you leave behind
a library of fortune
too late to discover

With a flick of the thumb
and a twist of the wrist
these missed adventures become
glowing embers on the asphalt
a fading memory in my rear-view mirror
