three specialists travel in their car
down Victoria, Australia
through rural Mildura
and they see fields
and a black cow standing in one

“Cows in Mildura,”
announces the astronomer
“are black”

“Tchk! Tchk!” says the logician
(Eminent Professor Emeritus)
“Some cows in Mildura are black”

“Let’s express it with precision,”
says the Mathematician
*“It is exact to say
there is at least one field
in Mildura
with at least one cow
of which at least one side is black”
1....based on a joke told in Simon Singh’s “Fermat’s Last Theorem” (1997), mentioned in “You Talking to Me?”(2011) by Sam Leith
2. Speaking of precision, I am aware the word “eminent” may not be used as a noun, but hey! – this is poetry, where imprecision is precision…
This sandstone sculpture,
soft, ephemeral, unreal,
we create every moment,
just for ourselves,
fighting the fragile nature
of the material, that
       at once, facilitates,
       and equally resists,
       is both memory
       and forgetfulness,
      harmony and dissonance.
      Tongues of time active ever,
love its taste, than anything else,
      gradually gobbles it up
with relish.
Come, stop by,
and appreciate.
It won't be here,
after some more summers,
but it won't be destroyed too.
It would be the grains ,
in any sandstorm,
for ever.
the type of girl
who will say "i love you"
first
Cold summer night,
quarter of the moon gone,
still shines bright, down
on this peaceful
Adirondack night.

Thinking of things I left,
and those I haven't found.
What could be hidden through
the mist across the lake?
Perhaps a vision of my
next mistake.
Try
Whats the point?

No one really cares anyway.
Measure the weight of words
And how they sit upon your eager heart
They crush towards your center
You lean back upon the start.
Have you noticed yet that I can strain
Myself through all your holes
Look back within a whimper, wondering
What pain we have enclosed.
I hope that we can verbalize and free
The feelings we contain,
We hold each others hearts with pride
To take away the pain...

I picture your hands touching me
And my body starts to tremble
When our souls caress and mingle...
It is to you I will surrender

We are the waves that welcome
The skies fallen tears
If things were different, if the world were perfect,
The obstacles between us would cease to keep us
Together and apart.

When galaxies merge, when dimensions converge
And every human need has been woven and stitched
with unwavering satisfaction.

When every intricate detail
and each contrasting complexity
is out, floating in the galaxy
for all to scrutinize.

When scrutiny is a foreign concept.
When loneliness is no more then a word.
When love conquers hatred.
When belonging is the norm.
When disorder finds peace.

When we realize that we all bleed the same blood.
When greed is dead and sleep is not the place where dreams come true.

If things were different, if the vines of mangled pasts were perfect,
The obstacles between us would cease to keep us
Together and apart.

If when this were to be, we knew how
I'm going away
to the place where need and want
shake hands

they go out for dinner
get drunk off wine
discuss life and its meaning
need tells want
he loves her
want tells need
she loves him too

need leaves want

they meet again in 5 years
want has gained weight
need has a receding hairline

need tells want
i miss you
want tells need
i miss you
and then leaves

need follows want
for the rest of the story

That's where I'm headed.
**** them all
I'll wear what I want and my nose ring too
that principal ***** is scared of me anyway
she looks every direction except mine
I try to walk near her in the hall
so she'll see I've busted the dress code
she's good at getting really engrossed in a conversation when I'm near
like the waitress at Applebys that looks right through me when I wanna order
people are so good at looking right through you it's scary
I can't look through anything
I see it all
I see my footprints on the sidewalk
******' followin' me
I see ******' atoms splitting
I see all the colors of light in the air
but sometimes I just see black
I go to fancy department stores
just to pull out clothes and let 'em drop
nobody ******' looks at me
except they're wondering if they'll have to call the police
maybe someday they'll have to call the police
then they'll see me
maybe for the first and last time
**** them all
sometimes I walk behind someone and grunt at 'em
I giggle when it scares 'em
but they always step aside and don't look at me
I just keep walking with those footsteps followin' me
and those colors turned to black in my eyes
I do like the **** who knocked me down that time
instead of steppin' aside
I like him fine
at least he saw me
at least he looked at me when he punched me
even if he did give me a nosebleed
and I lost my ring
tore it right out of my left nostril
and now there's a ******' scar
the janitor bandaged it up for me so I could go to class
I love that janitor dude
he's ******' awesome
he gives us *** and has a black cape hangin' on his wall
we can put on if we're in that kinda mood
it feels good to wear that cape
like Captain ******' Invisible
sometimes it takes the black away
sometimes the *** brings the colors back
I'd rather skip class and smoke *** with the janitor
but we're reading The Metamorphosis
now that's a ******' great book
a ******' nobody who becomes a monstrous vermin overnight
nobody's gonna forget that that's for sure
I wonder if Kafka locked himself in his room
like I do
I could turn into an insect and no one would know
since they don't look at me
well if they do look they don't see me anyway
I guess I am a vermin to them
the principal who doesn't wanna see me
and my sister who pretends she doesn't know me at school
and even my mom who only looks at me
to make sure I'm not wearing profanities on my shirt
**** that
******' big huge vermin ******' creepin' up behind you and grunting
and nobody even sees it comin'
that's a giggle right there
nobody sees it comin'
'cause nobody sees me
nobody sees me at all
For all those lost souls in society that need help before they take out their pain on the world
I don't know why
he laughs so much.
No one said anything
funny.
He doesn't want to talk
about the War.
