I once knew a girl,
who was couragious and full of life,
over time I noticed her light slowly burning out,
and their was nothing to see
but the darkness that surrounded her

When I asked her how she'd describe
her life,
she told me that everything she saw was
black and white
that colour did not exist in her reality
since everything she looked at,
made her feel like a blank page

Her family always told her to enjoy her teenage years
while she still had them,
they told her that one day she will grow up and
make memories of her own
that will stick with her forever

Little did they know that by the age of 12
she had battle wounds across her thighs from all
the fights that she fought against herself
and lost

Little did they know that by the age of 13,
her father decided that a night out with his friends
was more important than picking up his own daughter
from the hospital after getting her stomach pumped
for the 3rd time that summer

By the age of 14
she was drowning in the pool of shame of who she was
and who she pretended to be
she then told me she realized why God stopped answering
her calls-
that God must've found out about the affair she was having
with all the demons that kept her mind company
when she got lonely

15,
everything made her feel like she was suffocating
and the only oxygen she could bare to bring to her
chest
was the air that made her lungs turn a different
shade of black every inhale she took

At the end of the day
she goes home with a broken heart
grabs her needle to try
and sew something that can
not be fixed by a few stitches

She distracts herself with books and poetry
but all she reads
is pretty words that reminds her of the
ones who left her broken and shattered
in the first place

She looks into the eyes of people who
swore that they loved her
but they let her slip through their fingers
like she was not worth moving the bones
in their hands to hold on too

I'm wondering if you realize
that you took everything away from
someone who would have given you
the world

Dear girl I used to know,
Dear girl I used to be,
I miss you
Come home
