Stature confirming beauty’s place
knowing all is as it should be
contentment gained in the end
sadness spurned by reality

refine impressions at heart’s dismay
as predilections have their say
acknowledging those surely blessed
still admiration may persist

divine impression restrained to sight
embrace artifacts hewed from life
to admire nature’s consequence
belying what could follow next

separated by life’s great gulf
admire the breadth of results
surety set by the frame
stature confirms beauty’s place.

If I could know the title given
to the life that would follow
forewarned by script’s hand
this prophecy yet to pass

chapters made of shifting pages
some pristine and others tattered
with many more yet to turn
if the fates feel it’s deserved

precepted by a declaration
only gods know the heading
stating future’s hidden winding
perfect in the rearview mirror

still a warning would be nice
six foot tall against the sky
this dream will fail in the future
portents lost in lettered scribbles.

The poem “Title Given” is a consideration of what a life would be titled and how useful this would be to know beforehand.

When life is echoes in cold glass
backed by silver without a heart
perceptions mold to status set
by a world with no regrets

Procrustes did no less
exacting measures so all would fit
with a bed that must confirm
to the souls with one call

only seeking comfort's balm
from groups both large and small
each with a message to relate
comfort found in silver chains

these revelations will restrain
while supplying life’s gain
in the mirrors circumspect
of the life lost for respect.

The poem "Cold Glass" was inspired by the song "Hall of Mirrors" by Kraftwork found on the album "3-D".

Anonymity seeks to obscure
what’s made plain in the words
only showing by intent
the many layers of content

safety is the first domain
with excursions to the edge
peeking out from shadow’s realm
with permission to state the mind

even while the masks prevent
perception granted to the perceived
the changing visions of the id
knowing only moment’s blend

the ignorance of the world
is fertile ground for inner quests
proving that obscurity
allows artistic types to truly be.

The poem “Anonymity Seeks” was inspired by a Tumblr user who used the profile description, “I feels safe behind my anonymity.  As long as they don’t know who I am, I can be whoever I want to be.”

Before the curtain moves upward
revealing those who stand behind
the frowns must turn around
take the form of plaintive smiles

with rigamortis as a guide
fixture set against the glare
a statement made for all to see
this cruelest act of mimicry

imagine there are cursed souls
who show the same without the goal
of persuading the gathering crowd
that left is right and up is down

still the show must go on
step to the curtain before the lights
reveal the actors with parts to play
conformed to joy while in dismay.

The poem “Plaintive Smiles” was inspired by vintage video that featured a master of ceremonies transforming from a bent figure into his presiding self just as the curtain rose.

Volcanoes waiting to explode
slumbering miles within the earth
invisible to questing eyes
all too ready to believe the lies

those fairy tales of life expressed
of base desires too long repressed
even while the pressure builds
wishing joys to be fulfilled

those delights of raptured breath
hinted as the tremors build
explosions waiting in the realms
sequestered by the hesitant

everything burns in the end
eruptions damning past repents
they matter not when the flesh
takes its due as planets twitch.

The poem “Volcanoes Waiting” was inspired by a photo sequence from the television show Dickinson, episode ‘I Have Never Seen Volcanoes’.
