The rumors hint of *******
pursued by a joyous world
interactions pressed to flesh
while the actors are undressed

these plays enacted outside of scene
while on the stage close to hand
the opposite is fated as if in jest
with soliloquy the only script

liaisons of the distant past
evoke the memories that surpass
the dusty platters supped instead
in the emptiness of the day

still hearing tales of contact
coitus taken with longing gasps
even as this listener seeks
to state the rumors when they speak.

The connection walks with the crowd
down the road of many miles
with the track winding back
and the future still showing lack

the casualties of the past
seem discounted in the now
never count these out of hand
foundation laid by consequence

tens to thousands stepping forth
these travelers more than kin
strangers standing outside of blood
while their own is put upon

the single digits evoked a flood
now the masses are the crush
connections walking to be heard
with outlanders of common cause.

Blessed are those who can’t relate
to the poems of the dismayed
the depths plumbed beyond the curve
are foreign to the undisturbed

based on years without pain
perhaps a touch though not the same
as the writer with words to share
of despair bled upon the page

puddles seen of life expelled
still the reader is compelled
to state a mystery has been writ
when fortune lays outside the script

each with their own experience
nullifying the shared insight
with no judgment on each one
the sufferer and the stunned.

Imagine ghosts gathered round
sight unseen in their resolve
extend existence for a time
with a promise of delight

the living act as willing hosts
when amusement is the lure
desires extended to attract
those who seek carnality

these spirits go by other names
inducing lewdness as the reward
riding hosts until the dawn
then asking for another turn

fiends acknowledged in the end
it’s too late for the dismayed
flush by diversions of the flesh
this bait leading to the abyss.

Happiness guessed is fantasy
accounting for the scary dreams
worry spawns more of the same
damning all that play the game

failure wrapped without regard
for the falls beyond the edge
imagined in full relief
against the bones still complete

without a break even though
phantom pains take control
reducing those who abide
with the troubles of the mind

sadness thought to carry on
clouds spun into the storm
contrasted with the coming balm
this asks too much from the now.

Dark stories tell so much more
than escapades that words explore
these scratch the surface in attempts
to find the final consequence

beneath the depths plumbed within
are other layers attached to sin
asking why the lights are dimmed
lest the truth be condemned

these tales are whispered smoke
denied existence in remorse
as they’re shared across the world
no matter what the tomes implore

wishing only that righteousness
inform the actions of all men
even while the narrative
states how truly life is led.

Exploration of the unknown
plumbing depths once concealed
was the passion of the past
shown in displays few surpassed

the cavalcade without demure
exclaimed out loud for all to hear
has fallen quiet once the task
was completed with ends to last

those changes are now internalized
known to self in full resolve
even while the world decides
to disagree with pointed knives

it's no wonder the response
a retreat from consequence
includes identity's detour
to the closet of the before.
