A single night becomes the hinge
moving past the commonplace
with a sight that deviates
from the norm that most embrace

beyond the drone of the days
where conformance brings dismay
put aside in truth’s pursuit
of relevance by joy’s display

testimony of what should be
imagined in the realm of dreams
realized without regret
then voiced to others as consequence

the promise made stakes a claim
‘if only this were every day”
now gods have heard the call
in depths of night to the beyond.

The poem “A Single Night” was inspired by remarks made by the poet at two events, occasions that featured stepping out in a trans persona.

Doors exist in other realms
leading to the here and now
allowing travel to progress
until today is the past’s gain

reflection of what came before
once the edge of everything
fades in the memory of the world
forgetting where now was born

arrangements already made
before the present is displayed
stating what will advance
beyond the veil of present time

those portals asking for review
of how journey turned around
what tomorrow may present
in the eyes of future past.

The poem “Future Past” was inspired by thoughts about the past being the foundation of today before today becomes the past.

This prospector of a kind
for a treasure none can mine
instead the search taps the vein
of bent souls much the same

to find otherwise is the norm
that cookie-cutter life implores
sets the highs and the lows
into which all must flow

even while the traveler seeks
the camouflaged who prescribe
with the outer while the insides
twist away from standard’s set

into arms of fellow kinks
measured by a knowing wink
the prize measured in the twist
recognized by the self-same.

The poem “Self-Same” was inspired by my admiration of friends who are as non-normative as this poem’s author.  I feel less alone in the world knowing there are fellow travelers. A shared characteristic is the need to appease the greater populace, only showing the colors when safety allows.

Adornment comes in many forms
this step beyond nakedness
something more than garments hung
for the reasons of plain regard

decked upon a simple frame
once the base has been set
an exclamation is desired
to shift beyond boredom’s calm

wishing only to exclaim
loveliness in the bling
by the sparkle or color’s swath
splendor following this allure

beauty blessed for all to see
charisma worn as a prayer
the mantra of a greater god
when decoration is the charge.

The poem “Adornment Comes” was inspired by a dream that featured an outfit with a delightful ribbon counterpoint.

Listen closely to the voice
warning of the lovely traps
those that beckon from beyond
with entreats that promise charms

beauty turned to drop the guard
of experience sourced from years
knowing right from troubled wrong
now at risk before the plunge

discarded without a thought
in pursuit of false beguile
flirtation with no return
an invitation damning all

this promise of quick delight
hiding doom in hindsight
listen closely to the call
to walk away before the fall.

The poem “Lovely Traps” is about the safety of virtue being overwhelmed by temptation.

Feelings caught become the trap
waiting for unwary saps
wishing something to address
the crush of sad loneliness

that need to put aside the shield
armor worn against the storms
rain combined with thunderbolts
puts up a  shelter to console

these echoes matter little now
when the gulf between the souls
eternal silence becoming all
matters more than paling scars

still the snares may intrude
set with bait hung with hearts
this matters not when the void
is safety’s realm that none rejoice.

The poem “Feelings Caught” was inspired by a Tumblr meme that included the poem’s title.   Firstly I find the slang to be poignant.   Secondly, I’ve sworn myself off of the activity.  Sometimes life has other plans.

The doppelganger does exist
less than an inch from the skin
while at a distance that defines
a mirror set defying lies

without remorse of pleasantries
stacked upon the need to please
tearing down a false balm
constructed by safety’s calm

waiting for insanity
demanding dues of the will
impersonator that’s all too real
staking claims when strength wanes

this pressure keg that must reveal
the opposite of banal states
these humors ****** without regret
by opposites of the flesh.

The poem “Doppelganger” was inspired by a Tumblr meme that stated, “(the doppelganger) is a presentation of the guilt, the trauma, the fear, and hatred that might be buried underneath layers of pleasantry.”
