The frameless portrait on the wall Has asked me many times: ‘What is the reason of it all? You, standing in the night, Alone, bruised knees, stained dressed in blood. Saving yourself somehow From pictures in this corridor That wanted you to bow. Begging for mercy: Please, allow My crows inside the cell. Free creatures, they will break their claws Knowing that's where I fell. They'll break their necks, their beaks and wings Trying to get to me. No witness needed. I will swear On Bible. I will plea. The portrait was so silent, still So pale and hollow-eyed The chilly wind got to my bones, Barefoot, I couldn't hide. She started speaking, looking down. Ignoring creaky breaths I took to proof I was alive. No victory of the dead. ‘Red tiger's stripes, the pearls of tears. One could've chosen you To be a pet, amusement toy But you still have the flu. If only you had had no past, No soul, no crows around. If only you could just forget The words men said out loud.’ ‘No place on earth, in heaven, hell Would let me be their child. Their flower, spider, cedar, shell. The Saint, the witch, the wild. You know I've tried so many times To enter their closed doors. I wept and yelled, jumped reckless heights to have the chance, one more. I have green eyes, they say I’m cursed Too frightened to believe I'm just a human, just like them I have no flames in me. My blood is warm. I cannot fly. My tears contain some salt. I have a mother and a guide how not to be so sore. Still, I skipped lessons, poisoned air And tried to run away. Perhaps that's why the emerald grass Would turn itself to flare. The lifeless woman on the wall gave me the last of looks. ‘Oh, dear, it's never been your fault. Did you go to the brook? Behind the church, next to the bench. There's water of the truth. Inside the house, no mirrors left – The only things they took. You must pursue at least one drop: Reflection of yourself. And after that, when you are caught You will be claimed ‘bereft’. Are you aware, there'll be no life? The hope, believes, all dead. Will you be brave enough to spend The only treasure held?’ The crows to save, the blood to stop, Gray woman. I'm inbetween. But in a blink her vacant stare Turned into valiant green.
