He says he is worthless
broken
empty
alone

yet, I can only see that he is worth all the stars in the sky
and isn't that a wonderful thing
people look up at you
and even in the darkest moment
it's the glimmer in your eye
that makes the nights
not so long

I look at you and see all the ways a soul can bruise,
and I wish I could sink my hands into your flesh
and light lanterns along your spine
so you know there's nothing but light
when I see you
