you broke the chains
that bound My heart
Oh, I once could not love
the world treated Me so unkind
for I once thought
it was each man for his own
each man an island in the sea
and let Your starving neighbor be
then Your love shone upon My brow
I then saw that each poor helpless creature
was part of Myself
and how to see such poor ones suffer
that rends My heart in two
for there was not a thing
You did not love
Oh, to see the universe
through Your eyes
is to look through the windows of love
Oh, You were an angel
sent from heaven
like the pure light ofΒ Β the only son
Oh, an angel sent from heaven
Oh, sweet scented rose
he who made You
made not a mortal woman
but a thing higher than the things
of this world
a soul heaven sent
how Your flesh intoxicates as a wine
as a well aged wine
in the full of its time
Oh, your honey sweetness
earthly men cannot imagine
but only think half born thoughts
oh, woman who is more than a woman
I know You come from a realm above
this poor earthbound world
Oh, when I look into Your eyes
I see what the only son would be
if a women he were born
Oh, Your frame was so fair
your touch so soft
You were bound for this earth
not to remain
Oh, what a sad day
when the angels from heaven
flew down to take Your hand
and whisper in Your ear
"On this sad base earth
thou cannot remain
for this dark base earth
would only be pain to thee"
Then Your soul mounting up
on rainbow colored wings
took its leave of this dull and base earth
and to a brighter realm You flew away
Oh, so lovely and delicate
You were never meant for this earth
like some angelic thing
blown off course to the earth below
but oh I am sadder than any
mortal can ever know
for once such beauty tasted
nothing on earth can satisfy
such a longing
for a rose so fair
and so kind
like a young rose
first burst forth
the first dew covered rose of spring
Oh, I know now
I can never die too soon
for I know
what awaits Me
in the world beyond
