You would think that when the lights go out
and the room is pitch black,
that I would lose my shape.
Revert back to the sickly lump
whose stomach bubbles and pops
with each heavy breath.
But I don't.
I keep steady,
hold my pose
out of sheer fear
that someone's eyes might adjust to the darkness
and see me for what I truly am.
