We drove up in the middle of chaos,
acrid smoke hung heavily in the air
as flames licked the Humvee,
black and crimson
crispy-humans
still sat inside.
The epicenter of the blast had created
a four foot hole,
destroyed roughly seven other vehicles
& as we secured the crime scene,
I wondered if the dumb ***** who did this
deadly deed had thought about the three
dead children I saw near the curb,
two still holding hands.
I will never forget
the wailing of the woman
draped over them.
Shame on all of us.
