The tracks are broken up,
there are no whistles blowing
nor mean dogs barking,
the muffled cries are silent
& the shower lines are gone.

There is no more
wailing,
sobbing,
nor the clutching of hands
or endless tears,
fear is nonexistent.

The rusty iron ovens
have turned cold
& those once
perpetual-embers,
no longer
float skyward.

The only sounds
one might hear
now in this solemn place
are the soothing
whispering winds
& the beautiful
chirping
of a single bird.
