You have circles on the inside of your arm
that make you look like an octopus.
Maybe that's why I had such a hard time getting out
when you held me.

You wrapped your arms around me
and dragged me down to the ocean floor.
I was so lost,
it was so dark,
I asked you for directions to the surface
and you told me you would take me.

I believed you.

You sunk further down
and took me with you.
I told you I couldn't breathe
and you tried to save me
(you said you tried)
but you pumped water into my lungs,
you pulled me too hard,
you left bruises on my ribs,
you tore my flesh apart.

You took me to depths
that no man can withstand.

*You told me
to float.
