I gave my friend a rose,
To help her smile today,
For such a friend is precious,
This much I surely say.

I held her close and whispered,
How she had changed my life,
Her soothing voice spoke softly,
I knew she'd be my wife.

Her hair smelled sweet and lovely,
Her eyes so bright and blue,
My friend would be my future,
This much I surely knew.

So, all the life we lived here,
With all the things we did,
From once I first did see her,
Again once we were kids.

I gave my friend my love,
With everything so free to give,
That she became my partner,
We both begin to live.
