The Lost Kingdom

by SymphonyOfSilence

What do you do when the walls have crumbled? The city falls to the army that once battered at its gates. Now a king sits at his throne, Defeated. Not because he's lost the war, Defeated at the thought that even in victory, He would have faced failure. What then for a king? What then for a pauper? What difference in a kingdom if both are governed by those without virtue? What becomes of a castle, house, or shed, When the one inside finds peace too late to break his rest from the bed in which he lays?

Notes

I don't usually like to explain a take on my poems, but I want to here.

The poem deals with inner growth, and struggling with a reality built by a past self, that no longer fits. For me personally, I've gone on a spiritual journey, and it has helped me find a peace i never knew, but the world around me is one built before that peace. Now I wonder, what must change and what must be accepted.
