My heart trembles, twists and wrenches,
Yearning for a breath of you once more.
You were the lull of my mother's lap,
A dream of my unfulfilled nap.

I ruined everything before we began.
Lost you before I could knock on your door.

I'm apologetic for the feelings I have built,
for the love that rose like a tide,
only to break.

But one day, you will find my poems,
They will slip into your nights,
sit beside you in silence,
press against your ribsβ€”
and you will know how I felt about you

Still, I wait and I hope
like a tired bird in the nest.
Hoping one day, you will run to me, barefoot,
the earth remembering your steps.

Will I be there that day?
Maybe. Maybe not
