Even in
This dark, dark moment
When my mind tells me
I am defeated
There is joy

Even though
I feel like I am not capable
Amongst others who are
There is joy

Even when
I imagine the future
Based on the smaller limits
Of past experiences
There is joy

Even now
As I perceive a temporary opening
Of my heart
And my eyes moisten with tears of gratitude
There is joy

There is joy to be found
In every corner of human existence
Joy that can, and will, illuminate and transform
The lowest, ugliest and basest actions of man

It is all in our hands, in our hearts, in our gift as living beings
It is up to us
