A Sad Tale

As sad as this tale may seem

Let’s hope it’s no more than a dream

There was a girl and her loving beau

For her his everlasting love did show

Life tried to keep them apart

But she fully gave him her heart

Love blossomed full and strong

Though the miles between them were long

Plans of marriage did they make

For each other their hearts did ache

Until one day he said no

I am going to let you go

Why oh why oh why she said

Without you I am better off dead

But he shook his head and did not reply

He tried himself to understand why

He knew not why he left her there

Not certain why he did not care

Knowing without him she could not exist

She took the knife and slit her wrist

And he walked along the lonely road

From his eyes a river of salt flowed

Why did he let it end this way

Without her his world was gray

And knowing that there was no one else

He turned the knife onto himself
