The Present
I gave you a present
Something that I hold dear
I gave it to you
But not out of fear
I must warn you right now
This present’s been used
Broken and shattered
More than once been abused
It’s been crushed more than once
Seen more than it should
Yes I want to give it to you
You knew that I would
You helped to mend it
Make the two halves a whole
Promise you’ll be careful
Time has taken its toll
So be very careful
It’s been broken several times
I know that I trust you
Your love is more than a line
It’s very fragile you know
The present in your hands
Don’t treat it the wrong way
Let it lie where it lands
I know that you’ll cherish it
Hold this present true
It’s my heart that I give you
Cause you know I love you
