By the ocean's crashing waves,
A man once fell in love,
With a girl whose beauty,
Was sent from the gods above.

He saw her every day,
As he walked along the shore,
Her hair like seaweed,
Her eyes, a deep ocean floor.

He couldn't help but stare,
And soon he couldn't resist,
He had to speak to her,
To know if he existed in her mist.

As they talked, he knew,
That his love for her was true,
He didn't know that she was,
A mermaid, through and through.

He asked her to be his,
And she said yes, with a smile,
But little did he know,
Their love was doomed all the while.

For when the sun set,
And the moon rose high,
She had to return to the sea,
And he could only sigh.

He couldn't bear the thought,
Of being without her,
So he dove into the ocean,
To be forever with her.

But as he reached the depths,
He realized too late,
That he couldn't breathe underwater,
And his fate was sealed by fate.

He died in her arms,
And she in his,
Their love was true,
But it was doomed from the start,
For it was a love between land and sea,
And it was bound to fall apart.
