Example 1. Your partner is out with you. He buys a dress for you, happy no surprise element satisfied.
Your partner buys you a dress without you knowing he has not done this before. The surprise can't be related to anything. Sudden joy with being more happy and fulfilled.
Example 2. Your boss is short tempered and he shouts at you and humiliates you. Next time what happens? You would be scared of the stimuli which triggers a mistake. Your boss shouting at you makes you feel bad. Now every time you make a mistake you start feeling palpitations why?
Because that stimulus is related to a bad past experience. Stimulus+Activity which relates to a past experience or surprise. Break your emotions down then understand them.
Example 3. Scared of horror movies stimulus is the surprise element feeling of fear of the unknown. When everything is unpredictable people start feeling fear.
Being aware of the surroundings knowing going to the movies there will be surprising things. Be ready to be surprised. You will see immediately after that the level of fear will reduce, as you are making yourself aware of the surroundings. The surprise element is not there you are aware of it.
Example 4. People who cry at the movies. It is because you relate it to something in your life. You get so much involved with the life of the characters you start feeling bad for them. Counsel yourself. Convince yourself this is just a movie, these are just characters, they are happy with their lives.
Challenge yourself. You pick your emotion, your situation and challenge it. You will not do what you usually do.
