The gesso splashed
on my flowing arms
and flew through the air.
Not noticing I ran
my paintbrush fingers
through my hair.
The chemical smell hung
in the room
not looming but welcoming
helping to soften
this mind of stone
right smack in the studio,
it's been five years
since I've felt this way
like I'm finally
home.
