The day will come-I know well it will
When dark shadows crowd your way
And you in vain will try and  fight
To glimpse again the light of day.

Distressed you’ll question “Lord why me?”
The Heavens are silent- and no answer give
For they know you had made a choice
Of the kind of world where you would live.

From within a silent voice demands
Look o’er your life- each year, each day
And balance the little good you did
Against the evil that marked your way

There was a time when pure of heart
You reached for those who’d fallen down
But then the shadows that crowd your way
Of greed and lust, within you were born.

And sudden an array of faces swirls
Of those whose lives were drenched in pain
By you and those whom you corrupted
In a sordid quest for personal gain.

A haughty head with falsehoods crowned
Today disheveled lies in the dust
Time moves on with no patience left
For your repentance, though repent you must

And those whom you called your friends
Stun you with silence -not a word they say
As you wait for their hands to reach
And lift you to live for another day.

The judgement’s passed, you are done
Just a body and a guilt filled soul
That’s lost its chance to repent
And can only hide in a lightless hole

There is a lesson from your life
For those whose lives are yet to start
Choose well the path that you will walk
And never from that path depart.
