On the precipice of life and thereafter,

Stands a girl in yellow.

Clouds hang overhead,

Precariously close to exploding.

Much like the ones in her head;

And the voices that drove her here.

The voices she hears,

Day and night

Whisper slyly into her ear.

The voices, of the ones close and far.

Of those she once held dear.

Her soaked raincoat,

Her matted hair.

Droplets seeping through the fabric

And onto her shoulder bare.

She doesn’t hesitate

As she gets closer to the edge.

She leaps,

She flies.

The wind beneath her arms

The rains on her back

She’s finally free

Nothing to hold her back.

The raincoat flutters,

The yellow contrasts against the skies.

The one belonging she loved

And the only she left behind.

Oh if only she knew

That the world was her oyster

She wouldn’t have plunged, into

The darkness enveloping her.

But the girl in the raincoat

Like so many others

Fearful of being different;

Of being the yellow in the grey,

Leapt, and flew

And never looked back.
