How sad the song
Of croaking frogs
Far into the night
The melancholy  sound
Of a hoot owl
Near by
Echoing of wolves
Drowning out
Quiet sounds of
Evening's close
How sad the song
Of restless children
Roaming the streets
Looking for someone
To be their friend
Even if for
An evening
Adults too old and
Tired to care
As loneliness creeps in
How sad the song
Of tears running
Steadily down
A blackened eye
The noise of
A rumbling stomach
And crashing trash lids
From looking for food
How sad the sound
Barefeet bleeding feet
Unsneakered feet
Walking in streets of glass
How sad the song
When sung by
You or me
