I was walking through a glade in the woods
basket laden with forest found goods
mushrooms, wild garlic and such like
well worth the early morning hike
it was not yet time for berries and such
which I have a sweet tooth for so much
but as the sun shone further ahead
something caught my attention instead
walking further along the trail
I came to a moss coated wooden hand rail
I followed the path down which it led
and saw a wishing well in an old rose bed
I peer into the gloom of the hole of the well
it was thirty feet at least I could tell
so I ruffled my pockets for a penny or two
thinking that's what you're supposed to do?
I found an old two penny piece
threw it in with a wish for my niece
she's up in heaven watching us all
probably laughing and joking as I recall
Fiona had a heart that was gold
her humour comical, the stories she told!
I'll never forget the day she was born
her sweet little face gave a feeling so warm
She truly was one of life's little gems
Sewed us together at cuff, waist and hems
This little secret part of the woods
gave me more than forest found goods.
