A Lullaby

I walked alone on a quiet day

with only the sound

of the trees that sway

Along came a girl

so sweet, so fair,

Singing a song I'd heard nowhere

I stopped in my tracks

and I did stare

my heart it beat, my mind it cleared

She kept right along, so unaware

her beauty had stunned a man

unfair

I watched her go

and felt my heart grow

to fit all the pain of a life unknown

now she's a girl

that's gone for me

the trees, they sway

as I'm humming.
