I may be a feminist
but I am also proud of my choice
to be the hearth of my home
I know no one who cooks as well as I do
I take great pride in what I cook

Some day, I shall be a mother
a tree virtuous as the Earth
generous and skilled
this does not mean that I cannot fix a flat
or hell, change a tire
I can shoot a pistol
and win in a fight
I can spit and run and catch and throw
and God knows, I paint and write
but most of all,
I am proud of how I cook
of how I clean
for my home
is my canvas
