Heaven's intentions
Are not what they may seem
When half the world
Is left rattling at the door
This Angels eloquence
Cannot explain
Or teach the World
His paternal care
From Earthly things to things divine
What men have deemed substantial
Since the fall
The mind a wilderness
Through want of care
Plant a foot upon this ground of trust
Your god - merciful
Sets all to right
Every sudden slip and transient wrong
Spoken like an oracle
As science points its telescopic eye
A precious pearl of trust and light
Mercy's grand apocalypse displayed
Sits absolute on its unshaken throne
The pride of lettered ignorance, that binds
Our accomplished minds
Hurts our pride, moves our envy
This dark importance
Learnt beneath despair
When weary we retreat
On Sunday's
To the house of prayer..
